  • Duties

    • Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment (gasoline and diesel powered) in maintenance of all outside areas of the Dam and Reservoir.
    • Work involves maintenance and repair of roads, streets and grounds; fine grading work required for rough terrain and for repair of damaged sections of roads or streets.
    • Operate mobile and crawler cranes up to 50 ton with attachments.
    • Operate several types of boats and floating equipment on the Missouri River and at dam site.
    • Guide deckhand in making and breaking of tows, tying and untying lines, oiling and refueling of equipment, splicing lines and handling rope and cables; making minor repairs to floating plant equipment, etc.
    • Perform welding steel fabrication and structural repairs on equipment and facility..

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This is a mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with ER 690-1-1218, USACE Civilian Drug Free Workplace Program, dated 30 June 2021. Participation in the Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Program is required.
    • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
    • Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's license (CDL).
    • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision.

    WG-10: I have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks. I can operate heavy equipment to excavate, even out or flatten surfaces. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.

    WG-11: I have the ability to perform some Engineering Equipment Operator tasks. I am skilled in operating each of the following pieces of heavy equipment to excavate, trench or grade surfaces, on flat or rolling terrain: excavator, wheeled loader, and skid steer. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
    • Works inside and outside under abnormal temperature and weather conditions. Is exposed to the danger of tipping or overturning equipment when working on banks or side slopes. Is exposed to hazards of river traffic, erratic river conditions, danger of falling overboard and drowning, etc. In performing welding duties, is exposed to burns from sparks and hot metals, fumes and other hazards associated with welding. Works alone or as a member of a work crew either in a shop environment or at a work site. Distances between work assignments may be widely separated in terms of miles. Work is performed frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is frequently inadequately heated; work area is dirty, greasy and noisy; possibility exists for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, slipping from work position. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes. Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions and its use is mandatory.
