The successful candidate will join a college dedicated to the students it serves.
    Reporting to the Title V Director at Reedley College, the Career Exploration and Development Counselor will cover a full range of general counseling responsibilities including academic, career, transfer and personal counseling to a diverse student population. The counselor will:
    • Work closely with the Coordinator, Title V, to implement the goals of the grant project, Scaling Applied Learning to Guided Pathways through Career Exploration, Applied Learning, and Student Engagement;
    • Provide individualized counseling for personal, career, transfer, and all academic matters, with an emphasis in career counseling;
    • Assist students with career exploration and identifying applied learning opportunities for current and incoming students;
    • Support the work of the remodeled and expanded career center;
    • Assist students with major selection, developing student education plans (SEPs), aligned with their educational goals and career pathways;
    • Increase students' career awareness of career opportunities in their path and degree and certificate options;
    • Monitor and track students' academic performance and progress in degree objectives to ensure effective use of services and successful attainment of program objectives;
    • Evaluate transcripts, discuss probation/dismissal procedures, and assist students with appropriate academic and personal planning;
    • Provide activities and instructions designed to acquaint students with a range of student services options;
    • Assist students with timely application for financial assistance and enrollment in graduate and professional programs;
    • Present workshops for students, including career related workshops on job skills, job applications, and interview skills;
    • Provide assistance to new and prospective students with college applications and college orientation;
    • Work collaboratively with instructional faculty, staff, and administrators in the development of student success initiatives and provision of counseling in support of guided pathways and other student support services that will ensure student access to college, student retention and completion rates;
    • Participate in regular professional development;
    • Develop and facilitate individual and group workshops/orientations to local feeder high schools and community agencies;
    • Serve on college-wide committees and attending faculty meetings, as necessary to support and enrich college programs and activities, and participating in student success initiatives;
    • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
    • Flexibility as duties may include extended day, evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus assignments; and
    • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.



    Minimum Qualifications:
    All Candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors related to the need for equity-minded practices; AND
    • Masters degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR



    • Bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR

    • A valid California Community College Credential; OR

    • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

    NOTES:

    If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match EXACTLY as stated above, you MUST petition for equivalency.
    A bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
    • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
    • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
    • Related work and professional experience;
    • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
    • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
    • Experience working with a diverse student population;
    • Experience providing academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling at a community college;
    • Experience in developing Student Education Plans (SEPs) for community college students;
    • Experience developing and implementing programs and services associated with community college transfer centers, career centers and general counseling services;
    • Knowledge of California Community College matriculation process;
    • Knowledge of ASSIST and other online Transfer/Counseling and articulation resources;
    • Ability to plan, coordinate and implement Career/Transfer projects and special events;
    • Proficiency and currency with personality and career assessment tools and related software applications, their administration and interpretation;
    • Experience addressing educational barriers of low-socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff;
    • Experience with technology pertaining to student data collection within student services;
    • Experience participating in outreach and matriculation activities on/off campus; and
    • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.



    Conditions of Employment:
    181 duty days per year contingent upon funding. Duty days will be prorated based on start of assignment

    Salary and Benefits:
    Annual starting salary is $60,678 - $93,414 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

    Selection Procedure:
    Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

    From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

    The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

    A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

    About the College
    Reedley College is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Reedley, which has a population of approximately 25,000. Known as "The Worlds Fruit Basket," Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College. Reedley College is located on the historic T.L. Reed Ranch, bordering the Kings River which spans over 420 acres, including a 300-acre farm.
