  • Duties & Responsibilities

    • Research • Conduct historical research on mining activities in Illinois. • Reconstruct mine and production history from archival sources. • Scan, digitize, and edit data on coal mines and related geology. • Assist in producing mined-out area quadrangle maps and directories of Illinois coal mines. • Maintain coal mine research databases. • Add to Survey and PRI databases and knowledge through production, storage, and analysis of contract-produced data. • Conduct searches for distribution records, prepare and disseminate reports to funding agencies describing survey methods and results, and provide data to resource databases.
    • Engagement
      • Respond to requests for information and provide technical expertise to PRI staff, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, academia, industry, and the general public.
      • Attend, participate in, and contribute to professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.
    • Outreach and Other
      • Contribute in the areas of education, outreach, and/or other services to PRI, the University of Illinois, and the state of Illinois.
      • Enhance the reputation of the unit and PRI at the state and national levels.
      • Keep abreast of developments in this discipline.
      • Perform other duties as needed in order to further the mission and goals of the Survey, PRI, and the University.
