This posting will be used to hire two positions, one in the Mitchell/Plankinton or surrounding area and one in the Sioux Falls/Lennox or surrounding area.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Weights, Measures & Inspections promotes efficiency by utilizing program staff throughout the state to conduct a variety of inspections for the Departments of Health, Education, Social Services, the State Fire Marshal, Lottery, as well as Weights and Measures. The inspections performed by staff offer diverse opportunities to meet and work with a variety of entities daily. This position is responsible for identifying violations of regulations to ensure compliance with State and Federal Rules. Selected candidates will need to discuss and explain violations with business managers; complete required reports; ensuring businesses and consumers are receiving fair treatment and protect the public from health and safety hazards. You have the availability to work remotely from home while being responsible for establishing your schedule, ensuring the requirements from our partner agencies are met.
This position is NOT for building inspections, Motor Carrier, Highway Patrol or specifically Health Inspector.
Required: general daily travel with occasional overnights; reaching, grabbing, pulling, pushing, climbing, general and some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.); conducting inspections during inclement weather conditions; exposure to hazardous substances, combustible materials, heights, and illnesses.
