ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, EARLY LEARNING STRATEGY
Serves as a member of early learning leadership and is responsible for classroom engagement, family partnerships, special programming, curriculum, and all areas of developmental supports, including planning, implementing, improving, and evaluating.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSBILITIES
The Assistant Director, Early Learning Strategy will have an understanding and ability to put into practice and advocate for the following guiding principles: culturally and linguistically competent, child and family centered practice; natural learning environments; learner focused approach; functional and meaningful activities/supports; and the ability to operate from a systems perspective.
- Stays up-to-date on best practice within the field.
- Maintains a high-level understanding of Indiana’s early learning standards.
- Maintains a high-level understanding of SVELC’s Pillars of Programming (Reggio Emilia Approach, Nature-Based Exploration, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Vincentian Values).
- Directly responsible for successful and intentional family partnership strategies and activities, on both a center-level and individual classroom level.
- Directly responsible for ensuring effective support for all enrolled children’s nutritional, emotional/behavior, developmental, and physical education and growth, including the use of appropriate assessments to measure progress.
- Directly responsible for successful functioning of the enrollment management process, including new family onboarding and child transitions.
- Directly responsible for the implementation of classroom engagement strategies, including research, design, coaching, modeling, and evaluation.
- Directly responsible for implementation of curriculum, including coaching, modeling, and adherence to fidelity.
- Directly responsible for building and maintaining intentional community partnerships, focused on serving SVELC’s identified client populations.
- Plans, designs, facilitates, and evaluates all special programming events and activities, in collaboration with leadership.
- Works closely with the Director of Early Learning in all areas of program evaluation, including building logic models and evaluation plans.
- Works with Director of Early Learning to determine appropriate staffing requirements for classrooms and programming and assists with onboarding all teaching staff.
- Participates with President/Executive Director and leadership in strategic planning.
- Steps in to serve as teaching staff, when necessary.
- Assists teachers in identifying resources and supplies to meet classroom needs and early learning standards.
- Assists teachers in identifying and applying for professional development opportunities which meet SVELC standards and provide individual growth.
- Contacts family members when needed for courtesy calls, concerns, required documents, etc.
- Informs and enforces procedures and policies of SVELC.
- Engages with external partners, in collaboration with the Director of Early Learning and the President/Executive Director and ensures that resources are available and offered to families, as needed.
- Responsible for specified agency activities in the absence of the Director of Early Learning.
- Works closely with the Assistant Director, Early Learning Operations and the Program Coordinator to ensure proper staffing for opening and closing of the center and classrooms.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Models appropriate behavior.
- Ability to utilize technology at a proficient level and demonstrate comfort working in a digital culture.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- BA/BS in Early Childhood Education, with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
- BA/BS in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten endorsement, with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
- BA/BS including at least 30 credit hours in Early Childhood Education, with grades of C or better from accredited college/university;
- At least 5 years of experience in early learning
- Understanding of early learning systems strongly preferred
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and move from standing to sitting on the floor and return to standing
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- At times, may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position
- Fine hand manipulation is necessary when communicating in writing, and for utilizing technology
Other Requirements:
- All as required by State of Indiana or NAEYC requirement
- Must pass physical exam, TB and background tests as required by regulatory authorities
- All required onboarding training
- All job duties are expected to be completed in accord with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Vincent Early Learning Center
