    Position Overview

    The Office of Executive Inspector General for the Illinois Comptroller (OEIG) is seeking applicants to fill a legal internship position for the Summer 2024 term.

     

    The Office of Executive Inspector General for the Illinois Comptroller (OEIG) ensures accountability in State government by functioning as an independent, non-partisan State agency with responsibility, pursuant to State law, to investigate allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct.

     

    The OEIG investigates, when appropriate, alleged violations of law, rule, or regulation committed by an employee of, or those doing business with, an entity under its jurisdiction.  For example, the OEIG investigates allegations of waste, fraud, abuse of authority, or corruption, including ghost payrolling, bid rigging, theft, misuse of state time or property, procurement fraud, hiring improprieties, and improper time reporting, among others.  The OEIG also investigates alleged violations of the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act (Ethics Act), including prohibited political activity, revolving door, sexual harassment, gift ban, and retaliation.

     

    The position will be paid and is a non-remote position.

     

    Job Responsibilities

    The OEIG Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to apply their education and classroom theory to actual work situations in a legal environment.

     

    Legal interns will have the opportunity to assist staff by conducting legal research, drafting memoranda on matters related to the functions and policies of the office, and researching and advising upon administrative policies, procedures, and regulations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Legal interns must currently be enrolled in an accredited law school and have completed at least one year of legal study (or its equivalent if a part-time student).

    Terms & Dates

    Terms and dates of internships are flexible to accommodate course requirements and school start/end dates. Full-Time Intern positions will work 37.5 hours per week.  Part-Time Intern positions are available to students currently enrolled in classes.  Part-Time Intern positions will be expected to work at least 15 hours per week.

     

    This position will report directly to the Executive Inspector General and can be located in either the Springfield or Chicago office.

     

    This position may require travel with reimbursement.
