The Manager – Commercial Underwriting works closely with the Asst. Vice President Commercial / Farm Underwriting to ensure that the written premium, loss ratio and service objectives are being realized. This position is responsible for the supervision of Assistant Underwriters, Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters.
Salary Grade (16) 97,395 - 126,613 - 155,832
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Monitors written premium, loss ratio, and service for assigned territories.
Develops and implements corrective measures when written premium, loss ratio, and service objectives are not being met.
Monitors underwriting decisions and processes to ensure the underwriting staff are adhering to established criteria.
Provides training, guidance, and consultation to team members.
Assists Assistant Underwriters, Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters with their work.
Works closely with other departments such as Accounting, Claims, Information Technology, Marketing and Strategic Development to realize overall Commercial Lines and corporate objectives.
Monitors and evaluates competitive developments and recommends new or revised products and pricing to capitalize on opportunities.
Builds positive relationships between the underwriting staff, marketing personnel and our customers.
Travels to agencies to strengthen company/agency relationships.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises assigned Commercial Lines Assistant Underwriters, Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
7 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience
Knowledge of Commercial coverage's and rating
Working knowledge of reinsurance
4 year college degree
Previous supervisory experience preferred
