What will you do?
The Executive Vice President, Manufacturing Advancement, is responsible for and provides critical guidance to the IALR in executing its mission of economic transformation by providing executive-level strategic management and oversight to the Manufacturing Advancement division.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- DoD Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM)
Leads oversight and engagement with key stakeholders, including the Department of Defense and military officials, to support the growth of a national model for large-scale, accelerated training for the defense industrial base in critical skills; works with high-level audiences to develop strategies to identify and address long-term challenges; and develops strategies to position IALR through contract mechanisms to support the DoD in addressing them
- Partnership Development
Develops partnerships with business, industry, and technology executives that add value to the region and IALR's current and future programs.
- Center for Manufacturing Advancement (CMA)
Supports the development of a platform for manufacturers to innovate and integrate emerging technology into their processes, assists startup companies, and develops an industry 4.0 training capability; provides leadership in the planning and prioritizing of related business strategies; meets with high-level audiences; and develops partnerships key to the success of the CMA in support of developing an additive manufacturing center of excellence.
- Workforce Development: Strategic Guidance
Identifies opportunities and growth strategies for training programs at scale that will provide a competitive advantage for the region; coordinates advanced manufacturing training programs with higher education centers, community colleges, and secondary school systems throughout the region to build a pipeline of skilled workers to support current and future needs in the region; assists with and/or leads regional efforts to secure incremental funding for advanced manufacturing workforce training programs as well as student scholarship funding
- Management oversight and leadership development
Provides day-to-day management and oversight for the Manufacturing Advancement division; establishes communication lines and provides strategic vision for the department; and ensures that the division's goals and vision are aligned with the mission of the Institute. Identifies and works to develop the senior leadership team of the Manufacturing Advancement team.
- Manufacturing Engineering Technology Development
Co-leads a collaborative initiative with Old Dominion University and industry leaders to develop a Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Mfg ET) program that will provide opportunities for engineering students to earn their degree in Danville, VA.

What do you offer?
- A master's degree with five (5) years of experience in business management, business development, leadership, engineering or a comparable field is preferred, or a bachelor's degree with ten (10) years of experience in business management, business development, leadership, engineering, or a comparable field
- A minimum of five years of experience working in a leadership role in a manufacturing facility or a business that includes precision manufacturing (i.e., CNC machining, metrology, welding, and automation) as part of its operations
- Supervisory experience is required
- Experience working with government leaders and/or stakeholders is preferred
- Business development experience (new and existing) as well as building and managing corporate partnerships is preferred
- Workforce development and/or industrial training experience is helpful
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Must have advanced technical and business acumen
- Must be able to form strong relationships and partnerships with industry, military representatives, trainers, students, political representatives, funding agencies, and economic development teams on local, state, and federal levels
- Knowledge of defense manufacturing is preferred
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing technology
- Must demonstrate executive-level communication skills, oral and written
- Must be customer service-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and possess the ability to multitask and troubleshoot in a multi-faceted work environment
- Must be able to lead and work effectively in team-oriented environments
- Demonstrated ability to secure grant and/or contract funding once an application is made
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel throughout Virginia, as well as make occasional out-of-state trips
