Junior Purchaser

Reports to Purchasing Manager

Works closely with Production and Receiving Departments

Full-Time Position in our SLO office | Mon-Fri, 7am-4pm

Job Description

We are a fast-growing brand in the aftermarket automotive world and are seeking a motivated Junior Purchaser to work closely with the Production and Receiving Departments to ensure the right parts show up at the right time. This is a crucial role responsible for creating and placing purchase orders, communicating with our vendors, analyzing potential shortages, requesting quotes for new products, and assisting with internal movement/receiving of products.

This position is as In Office Position at our San Luis Obispo location.

Responsibilities

• Analyze material requirements and create purchase orders for approval for items below the reorder threshold.
• Ensure products are purchased at the right time, to specification, and at the best price available.
• Create purchase orders for packaging and production items as needed including, but not limited to, shop supplies, hardware, safety equipment, etc.
• Coordinate deliveries for incoming product and coordinate freight of outgoing work-in-process.
• Conduct research on potential products, vendors, and services, and comparing price and quality to ensure the best deal.
• Meet with vendors, visit vendor’s factories as needed, and negotiate the best contracts/pricing.
• Coordinate with Receiving to ensure goods are inspected and received on time.
• Monitor inventory and writing orders to refill stock.
• Inspecting purchased products upon delivery and reporting any issues timely.

Required Skills and Experience

• High school diploma
• 1 year or more experience in any manufacturing, industrial, or assembly operations
• 1 year or more experience in material planning or material purchasing or buying
• Great written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• Able to stand and walk throughout the scheduled 8-hour work shift
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Practical experience with purchasing software
• Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word) and ability to write professional emails

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Proficient with reading engineering drawings to understand crucial dimensions/features of parts being quote
• Forklift certification and operation
• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
