  • ASSISTANT MERCHANDISE PLANNER | JOB DESCRIPTION    SUMMARY  At Magnolia, the Assistant Merchandise Planner is responsible for assisting with the execution of merchandise planning functions. This position helps to prepare various reports to inform management in projections that will guide business decision-making and understands key metrics such as sales, gross margin, inventory and order value, and weeks of supply. This position works from Magnolia Headquarters in Waco, Texas. It reports to the Senior Merchandise Planner or Merchandise Planner and has no supervisory responsibilities.    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Uphold Magnolia’s manifesto and values  Develop seasonal plan strategies for assigned categories under supervision  Present business priorities and opportunities within areas of responsibility  Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors  Support the planning team in the management of inventory levels  Keep an ongoing knowledge of all Magnolia products  Provide reporting for analysis that supports seasonal buying strategies and decisions  Build reports for analysis of markdowns and promotions, and maintain markdown and promotional pricing  Create allocation transfer plans to support sales and inventory supply  Perform other duties as assigned   QUALIFICATIONS  Hard skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, foundation in retail math and financial acumen Soft skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, highly resourceful team-player with the ability to work effectively and independently, proactive and solution-oriented, strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail Education: Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university required Experience: 1 years of related work experience preferred OR an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred    PHYSICAL DEMANDS  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; use hands and arms to reach, handle, feel; utilize fine motor dexterity of fingers; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.
