A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A MORTGAGE LOAN PROCESSOR
As a Mortgage Loan Processor, you support the Mortgage Loan Officers in clerical and routine customer service duties. You handle members' personal information with integrity. And, you are conscientious as you help process what is often the biggest financial transaction of their lifetime.
Most of your day is spent gathering documents and reviewing them to ensure that files involved with portfolio and secondary market loans are complete, accurate, and in compliance. You also resolve issues determined by the underwriting team and/or submit the loan files for final approval. You then assemble documents for delivery to the title company, real estate broker, or lending officer for closing. You maintain multiple mortgage files at one time. You prioritize your own workload and work independently. When each loan closes successfully, you have a wonderful feeling of accomplishment!
Though your job is clerical in nature and speaks to your love of details and organization, you also get to spend time each day interacting with people. Once the loan process is in motion, you take over routine communication with members such as requests for additional documents and answering basic questions. Additionally, you verify information with the title company. You also work closely with secondary investors to ensure that each loan file successfully funds. While Mortgage Loan Originators are responsible for establishing good relationships with applicants, title agents, and real estate professionals, it is your responsibility to help maintain those good relationships.
Ongoing learning is also an important part of your job, as policies and regulations change often. You attend training, workshops, and conventions in order to develop professionally and keep up on developments in the industry.
