SPAN Family Resource Specialist, Autism Medical Home Project at Hackensack University Medical Center
Are you looking to make a difference for families in the Hackensack area who need services for a child with special needs?
The SPAN Parent Advocacy Network is looking to hire an advocate for special needs children at the Institute for Child Development at Hackensack University Medical Center. This is a paid, part-time position open to parents in the Hackensack area who have children, age five or over, who have disabilities or special medical needs.
SPAN partners with HUMC staff to provide culturally competent, up-to-date, information, advocacy, and parent to parent support to families of children with disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. Preference is given to a parent of a child on the autism spectrum who has gone through Early Intervention and transitioned to Preschool and school-age services, as well as candidates who have completed the SPAN Resource Parent Training series.
In this role, you will conduct outreach and provide support to families served by the Institute of Child Development, helping them navigate the early intervention system and other systems designed to provide support. We are looking for someone with outstanding planning, communication and organizational skills; outreach and collaboration skills, and a knowledge of the local community and resources. Strong Spanish or other second language skills are a plus.
SPAN is looking for candidates able to work an average of 18.75 hours per week. Flexible hours are available.
