    Responsibilities

    Primary RN Coordinator Infection Prevention responsibilities include:

    • Develops, coordinates, implements and maintains an organizational infection prevention and control program that conforms to external regulatory requirements, and serves as an active member of the Safety Committee 
    • Demonstrates the comprehensive integration of infection prevention and control into the TQM program and represents infection control on facility committees 

     

    Primary RN Coordinator Employee Health responsibilities include:

    • Promotes organizational employee health and safety by facilitating an employee health program that promotes disease detection, prevention, and treatment; following up employee illnesses and injuries; conducting employee health screenings; and promoting a safe work environment

     

    Essential Key Job Responsibilities

    • Participates in development, revision and implementation of the facility’s Infection Control Program including annual risk assessments, policies, standards, and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet MDH, CDC, OSHA, etc. requirements
    • Coordinates infection control activities of surveillance, collecting, compiling and analyzing data to identify infectious disease/outbreaks, initiate epidemiological investigations, and collaborate with the laboratory for required reporting and follow up  of communicable diseases to state authorities on a timely basis
    • Identifies and reports health-care acquired infections and implements appropriate process improvements
    • Provides employee education related to infection prevention and control
    • Ensures proper application of infection prevention and control standards through employee orientation, ongoing education and process improvement activities
    • Promotes an environment that supports patient/family participation in infection prevention (hand hygiene, isolation precautions, etc.)
    • Promotes the use of infection control clinical guidelines/policies and serves as a resource for evidence based practice
    • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team in defining problems, selecting solutions, and identifying resources
    • Reports required infection data to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) on a monthly basis
    • Collaborates with Human Resources and conducts new on-hire screenings and annual employee screenings; refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks to appropriate resources; maintains employee health records
    • Offers health promotion incentives and educational materials
    • Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to communicable diseases; provides concise data and tracking of all exposures
    • Plans, implements and conducts annual Influenza Vaccine Program, and other vaccine programs as directed by OSHA, APIC, CDC and other regulatory agencies
    • Conducts TB screening for new employees/volunteers according to TB control plan; conducts follow-up tuberculin skin testing (TST) related to TB exposure
    • Trends employee illnesses/injuries to identify safety and health issues
    • Plans and implements annual TB, blood borne pathogen, hand hygiene, and isolation practices training to employees as appropriate

     


    Qualifications
    • Current licensure as Registered Nurse by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing
    • BLS
    • Ongoing education appropriate related to infection control, and employee health (ex: MNAPIC, APIC, etc.)
    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; interacts effectively with providers, patients, visitors, and staff
    • Knowledge in the fundamentals of quality/process improvement to design, implement, evaluate, and revise activities through rapid cycle improvement processes

     

     

    Preferred

    • BSN preferred 
    • Two to three years of recent acute care or long term care work experience is strongly preferred
