JOB SUMMARY :
This position assists in the performance of pipeline operations, maintenance, inspections, and other duties as assigned for crude pipeline systems. Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Understand, practice and continually lead by example Mid-Alaska Pipeline, LLC’s commitment to zero incident safety and environmental culture.
- Comply with pipeline safety and environmental regulations.
- Monitor and ensure that pipeline conditions and issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate understanding of mechanical operations for equipment such as ball valves, gate valves, relief valves, meters, instrumentation and other pipeline-related equipment.
- Identify, report, and initiate immediate actions to correct abnormal operating conditions associated with pipeline assets within standard parameters.
- Evaluate and develop procedures such as pigging, startup, purging, isolation, pipeline repair, operations & maintenance, and emergency shut down procedures.
- Evaluate pipeline system and equipment performance and initiate standard adjustments, as needed.
- Assist in troubleshooting and analysis of complex operational issues. Activities include troubleshooting valves, strainers, inhibitor injection, pumps, meters, pressure gauges / transmitters, temperature gauges / transmitters, computational pipeline monitoring (leak detection system) and other pipeline-related equipment.
- Complete line-locate requests in accordance with damage prevention regulations, utilizing line locating equipment.
- Conduct routine monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of pipeline assets. Activities include performing facility inspections, ROW inspections, ROW maintenance, valves inspection / maintenance, meter run maintenance, valve operation, draining pipeline segments, verifying operating conditions (.
pressures, temperatures, volumes, cathodic protection, .
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to call outs for leak detection system alarms.
- Conduct and review routine patrols of ROWs to ensure there are no encroachments or construction activities potentially affecting the pipeline assets.
- Assist in meter proving.
- Maintain ROW in winter, utilizing plow and hand shoveling at key access and inspection points.
- Maintain ROW in summer, utilizing lawn mowing and brush clearing equipment.
- Be available 24 / 7 for emergency response.
- Assist in maintaining all records and reports as required for compliance purposes.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand and pneumatic tools
- Must have ability to gain comprehensive knowledge of the overall operations and maintenance of a crude oil pipeline system and associated equipment, including, but not limited to : valves, meters, strainers, pressure gauges, temperature gauges, chemical injection, isolation, purging, venting, pipeline repairs, system shutdown and startup, cathodic protection, inspections, and spill response mitigation.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical operational manuals.
- Ability to understand metering and proving concepts.
- Ability to understand Computational Pipeline Monitoring systems.
- Math and computer skills with ability to calculate flows, temperature / pressure differences, and gain proficiency in computational pipeline monitoring software.
- A valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles.
- Ability to proficiently speak, read, and write in English.
- Must be organized and proficient in record keeping.
- Must possess or obtain operator qualifications as deemed by the Pipeline Director and complete Haz-Mat training, safety programs and meet DOT requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills working in a team environment.
- Ability to work alone and with minimal supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
This position may be required to monitor, inspect, and document contractors work on the pipeline facilities at the direction of the Pipeline Operations Supervisor.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE :
- Degree or Certificate required in Process Technology, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering. Equivalent applicable experience as a operations or maintenance tech may be considered.
- 2-5 Years of experience as a pipeline operator or technician. A person graduating in one of the disciplines noted above within 6 months may be considered.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as GIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
