Overview:

The Privacy Manager must be strong advocate of patient privacy, be highly visible and actively assist leaders and co-workers improve privacy across the organization. The Privacy Manager must recognize how protecting patient privacy complements our Mercy Values and Service Standards.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Business Administration, Risk Management, or other healthcare-related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
• Certifications: Willingness to obtain Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) through the Health Care Compliance Association within one year of employment.
• Other:
  • Thorough knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).
  • Ability to make presentations and address both large and small groups of co-workers regarding privacy education and other privacy-related matters.
  • Ability to travel regionally and work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to analyze audit trails and other reports to validate appropriate co-worker access of protected health information.
  • Must be comfortable working with Human Resources and assisting with investigating and interviewing co-workers.

• Preferred Experience: Previous privacy and security, as well as audit experience.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) though the Health Care Compliance Association.
