Mental Health Services Provider (Therapist)

This position provides services to youth and families involved with the Department of Child Services and Juvenile Probation. This is a salary position with competitive pay and benefits.     POSITION OBJECTIVE


    The primary responsibility of a Mental Health Services Provider is to assist clients in identifying and addressing areas of their lives in which they need therapeutic support. The Mental Health Services Provider and client will work together to identify goals and create a treatment plan to work towards achieving those goals through office-based counseling/mental health services. The Mental Health Services Provider will utilize various assessment tools to help gauge client progress on reaching their goals. The goal of mental health services/therapy is to increase the daily life functioning of the clients they are serving. The Mental Health Services Provider may provide individual, family therapy, and/or group sessions, depending on the needs of the individual receiving services.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


    • Provide structured, goal-orientated therapy for individuals and/or families affected by or at risk of physical, sexual, emotional, substance use abuse as well as neglect, mental health issues, and/or behavioral issues.
    • Provide therapy to clients in an individual, group, and/or family setting.
    • Complete initial, ongoing, and final assessments to evaluate client/family needs and progress.
    • Complete initial treatment plan within 7 days of initial face to face contact, review ongoing with client/family every 30 days, and be re-evaluated/updated ongoing every 90 days.
    • Attend, communicate, and correspond with Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTM) as needed.
    • Provide services based on objectives originating from the DCS/Probation case plan/Informal Adjustment.
    • Attend court hearings and/or appeals when testimony is requested.
    • Schedule provision of services at a time convenient for the individual/family.
    • Completion of daily progress note and a monthly report for each client no later than the 5th day of the month at midnight for the previous month.
    • Upload and email written reports monthly utilizing DCS Monthly Progress Report template no later than the 10th of each month.
    • Ensure services provided reflect goals and outcomes as outlined in the DCS Standard of Counseling.
    • Actively participate in supervision/consultation at least 1 hour per 20 hours of direct client services provided, but not less than once every 2 weeks.
    • Participate in on-call rotation to be available to clients/families 24/7 via phone, or in person, for crisis intervention.
    • Obtain all needed signatures for required paperwork including intake/annual documents.
    • Responsible for bringing paperwork to the office for the purpose of filing copies in the main file. 
    • Responsible for making sure clients’ files are current and up-to-date both in the main file and the electronic file.
    • Ensure all billing/payroll units and hours are accurate prior to submission for billing/payroll.
    • Consistently provide therapeutic services and follow up with service providers and families.
    • Exhibit effective correspondence and communication with all providers, family members, staff members, clients and all other treatment team members as applicable. Be sure to return phone calls, text messages, and emails within a 24-hour time frame.
    • Carry and maintain current professional liability insurance, as applicable.
    • Adhere to professional and ethical interaction policies and procedures.
    • Position requires travel to team meetings and court hearings, must be willing to use personal vehicle and provide proof of current automobile insurance and registration.
    • Position consists of growing a caseload as referrals are received.


    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS


    Must be able to work well and communicate with clients, family members, providers, supervisor, and all other treatment team members as applicable.


    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION


    • Must be a licensed provider by means of one of the following:
      • A Master’s or Doctorate degree with a current license issued by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board
      • Master’s degree with temporary permit issued by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board
      • Hold a Master’s or Doctorate degree that is applicable for licensure. Individuals must work towards licensure upon hire. 
    • Master’s degree in a related human services field and have completed a minimum of 24 postsecondary semester hours or 36 quarter hours in the following coursework:

      • Lifestyle & Career Development
      • Sexuality
      • Gender & Sexual Orientation
      • Issues of Ethnicity, Race, Status & Culture

      • Clinical/Psychiatric Social Work
      • Group Therapy
      • Psychotherapy
      • Counseling Theory & Practice
    • Individuals must complete the Human Service Related Degree Course Worksheet with attached transcripts. 
    • Have practiced knowledge of clinical techniques such as, but not limited to: MRT, CBT, DBT, ABA, or other best practice models. 
    • A knowledge of addictions is preferred but not required. 
    • The candidate should have a proven ability to build rapport and work within a team. 
    • A proven demonstration in group leadership skills are preferred.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    • Travel by automobile to various worksites for conducting business is necessary (around 5%).
    • Must be able to communicate well orally and in writing with clients, families, treatment team members, and referral sources. Regular use of a telephone, email, or other medium to communicate is essential.
    • Sitting for extended periods is common.  
    • Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents.
    • No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.  
    • Good manual dexterity required for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculators, copiers, and fax machines.


    WORK ENVIRONMENTS


    Services billable  must be completed face-to-face in a traditional office setting or a setting consistent with maintaining confidentiality and privacy (ie: school office, DCS office, etc). 


    ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS/FUNCTIONS 


    • A report of “no findings” when criminal history checks are completed is required. 
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license, automobile registration, and insurance.
    • Confidentiality is required. Any infringement on this stipulation may result in immediate dismissal of employment and termination of service agreement.
    • Review and sign off on the Service Standard Indiana Department of Child Services Home-Based Therapy
    • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

    • Pay range $55,000-$65,000/year based on experience and licensure (Full-Time)
