    SUMMARY:

    Provide microbiological analysis of finished products, incoming ingredients including samples from packaging and processing, rinse water samples, swabs and other routine samples taken during production by plating using media and techniques as specified in the procedures to meet Tree Top and customers microbiological requirements. Conduct environmental sampling and air sampling monitoring.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    All of the following are to be performed while adhering to Tree Top operational policies, safety rules, procedures and good manufacturing practices.

    It is the responsibility of every employee at Tree Top Inc. to report food safety and food quality problems or risks to personnel with the authority to initiate action against these said possible risks. The Organization chart indicated key personnel with the authority to take action.

    • Perform Micro Analysis on Finished Products, Incoming Ingredients and other samples from processing and packaging:
    • Plant finished products according to Tree Top and customer procedures
    • Plate other samples from processing and packaging according to Tree Top procedures
    • Observe aseptic sampling technique
    • Plate rinse water samples, prepare media and dilution water
    • Use control standards to verify air quality and sterility of dilution water and media used
    • Reading and interpretation of test results
    • Send out samples for micro analysis based on company needs

    • Ensure Product Quality
      :
    • Verify conformance of test results to specifications
    • Notify QA Supervisor, Quality Services Manager and operations of any potential issue.
    • Work with other departments in troubleshooting and determining the root cause of the problem

    • Collect Samples
      :
    • Collect samples from different locations of the plant to determine area of concerns
    • Observe aseptic sampling technique
    • Verify daily that lab received all samples needed to be tested from processing and packaging
    • Prepare samples for testing according to the priority of when the test results are needed

    • Plant Micro Audits
      :
    • Work with QA Supervisors in conducting plant micro audits
    • Assist in addressing daily issues and work with other departments in improving sanitation.
    • Perform other jobs as needed

    • Record Data and Communicate:
      :
    • Record micro results
    • Evaluate results for accuracy and consistency
    • Notify QA Supervisor, QA Manager and operations of products that are out of specification.
    • Perform immediate rechecks to narrow down quantity of hold products.
    • Provide signed report of final micro results to QA Supervisor
    • Update and maintain tracking records.

    • Knowledge of Lab Equipment
    • Calibrate equipment daily using approved method
    • Verify calibration within operating parameters
    • Clean equipment daily to ensure optimum performance
    • Operate equipment using approved method
    • Troubleshoot misinformation or malfunction, initiate corrective actions as needed

    • Maintain Work Environment and Personal Hygiene
      • Clean, sanitize and sterilize all tools, buffer and media use in micro testing.
      • Prepare required reagents according to procedure
      • Stock necessary supplies
      • Maintain an organized and clean work area
      • Maintain current organize files
      • Maintain daily effective personal hygiene (personal cleanliness, personal behavior, hand washing and sanitary handling)


    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required


    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Working knowledge of microbial testing and subsequent laboratory equipment and use.
    • Solid knowledge of laboratory safety
    • General understanding of food safety and food quality.
    • General understanding of food laws and regulations.
    • Mathematics and scientific weights and measurements.
    • Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).


    ABILITY TO:

    • Perform microbial testing to ensure product meets specifications.
    • Use microscope and stereoscope.
    • Read, interpret and document test results.
    • Accurately perform mathematical and scientific calculations.
    • Maintain confidential and sensitive information.
    • Problem solving ability and high sense of urgency
    • Meticulous and has the ability to multi-task and work quickly while maintaining accuracy
    • Ability to work well within a team environment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbal and written.
    • Effectively organize, plan, and execute.
    • Use computers and including spreadsheets, and databases.
    • Meet behaviors established in Tree Top's performance management and development process.


    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

    • General College background with a minimum of 2 years of microbiology lab techniques and use of subsequent equipment experience.
    • Experience and/or training using aseptic laboratory techniques is required.
    • Training in environmental sampling and testing is preferred.
    • Knowledge of food plant sanitation is a plus.
    • Must be computer literate.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Constantly works in a lab environment, frequently has exposures to an office environment, and occasionally has exposures to an outdoors or manufacturing/plant environment
    • Occasionally works mandatory overtime
    • Occasionally deals with highly confidential information
    • Frequently works under tight time constraints or with business activities of a seasonal/cyclical nature
    • Physical requirements of the job:
    • Constantly lifts up to 5 pounds, frequently lifts up to 10- 20 pounds, and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
    • Vision requirements: Constantly uses near vision, depth perception, and color vision, and frequently uses far vision.
    • Constantly uses repetitive hand motions, grasps, and/or listens/uses hearing.
    • Frequently lifts, talks, stands, walks, types, reaches, and/or sits, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
    • Work environment while performing the duties of this job, the employee is/or could be exposed to:
    • Types of exposures: toxic or caustic chemicals, odors or fumes, vvibration and loud noise, wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat and moving mechanical parts
