Toxicologist develops and coordinates regulatory programs for consumer products. Conducts research on toxic effects of consumer products and ingredients on laboratory animals for manufacturers of consumer products. Being a Toxicologist may require a Ph. D in toxicology or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Toxicologist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     We are currently seeking an environmental scientist/toxicologist in the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Department. The position will provide the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and expand horizons.


    Summary/Objective

    This early-career environmental scientist/toxicologist will join a collaborative team that supports our human health-based consulting services for a wide range of industrial and commercial clients. The work requires a professional knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of toxicology/risk assessment, exposure assessment, industrial hygiene/exposure science, occupational safety, and a desire to apply multi-disciplinary approaches (e.g., chemistry, biological sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health) to research projects involving potential effects from exposure to different materials, chemicals, or biological agents.

     

     Job Responsibilities


    • Apply toxicological principles to address client concerns
    • Conduct research across multiple platforms (with assistance from library staff): PubMed; Ancestry.com; Newspapers.com; historicaerials.com; and non-computer research (e.g., go to library special collections; microfiche; journal browsing)
    • Synthesize research results into expert presentations, publications, reports, and other materials
    • Support large projects involving complex or novel cases
    • Perform as a team member under the direction of a Project Manager
    • Maintain EndNote bibliographic databases
    • Summarize records (e.g., depositions, court documents, sampling results, medical records, employment records, and military records)
    • Collaborate with team members
    • Maintain excellent client relationships

    Required Qualifications

    M.S. or M.P.H. in Public Health, Epidemiology, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field is required.

    Knowledge, training, or education in mathematics, epidemiology, chemistry, biostatistics, and/or risk assessment is preferred.



    Physical and Mental Job Qualifications

    This is a full-time salaried position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require rapid response out of normal business hours and weekend work. Local travel during the business day (e.g., for library research) and some out-of-town travel may be required.
