THIS IS NOT A CITY OF BROWNSVILLE POSITION
POSITION SUMMARY: The Municipal Court Contract Judge performs a wide range of professional services related to the Judicial functions of the position, in a variety of criminal, civil, magistrate, and juvenile matters.
COMPETENCIES:
Command of judicial ethics and subject matter jurisdiction.
Legal and Public Service Acumen
KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Conducts judicial proceedings in areas ranging from magistration of defendants, adjudication of fine only offenses, and property hearings to fine only juvenile and truancy cases.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in the State of Texas.
Knowledge of state statutes and common law related to Municipal Court matters.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation electronic office machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
