    Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:

    • Provide prompt access to justice for customers through face to face interaction, electronic communication, and/or telephone support
    • Interpret and carry out judges' orders
    • Create and maintain official court records; research cases; schedule court dates; and file pleadings and related court documents
    • Process payments, reconcile cash drawer, and monitor outstanding payment plans
    • Issue and serve subpoenas; notify law enforcement of wanted individuals
    • Coordinate appearances of attorneys and interpreters
    • Certify court documents
    • Manage and maintain files and records
    • Provide court testimony
    Authority may be granted as a special police officer for service of warrants and initiation of summons and complaints from converted parking tickets. 

    We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:


    Knowledge of:
    • Applicable legal terminology and practices
    • Colorado Municipal Court Rules of Procedure and Colorado Criminal Rules of Procedure
    • Court policies and procedures
    • Principles and practices of communication
    • Cashiering and balancing a cash drawer
    • Modern office equipment and methods
    Ability to:
    • Learn pertinent federal, state, and local ordinances, laws, and regulations in accordance with basic rules of criminal and civil procedures
    • Deliver exemplary customer service
    • De-escalate conflict
    • Exercise independent judgment and sound decision-making with minimal supervision
    • Obtain information on a variety of sensitive subjects
    • Work effectively under stressful conditions
    • Multi-task and prioritize duties effectively in a fast-paced environment while withstanding interruptions
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, clients, and other agencies

    • A high school diploma or GED
    • One year of full-time clerical support experience, including cashiering and public contact experience
    One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.


    Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

    • College-level coursework in the legal or other related field
    • Experience working in a courtroom/probation environment
    • Experience processing legal documents and/or records

    The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.

     

    The background check process for this position includes being fingerprinted. Fingerprints will be used to check the FBI’s criminal history records.
