As a Real-Time Power Trader at Associated Electric, you will play a pivotal role by optimizing a diverse fleet of generation assets and ensuring reliable energy service for our Member Owners. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to capitalize on market opportunities, manage energy positions, and contribute to the overall success of our power portfolio! What You’ll Be doing: Optimize generation resources to maximize economic value while maintaining system reliability Capture real-time arbitrage opportunities and manage day-ahead and real-time transactions Negotiate wholesale purchases and sales in the hourly markets Develop accurate load forecasts for short-term trading activities Purchase transmission for hourly power transactions Tag power transactions and monitor transmission congestion Work closely with System Operators to ensure reliability and compliance with regulatory standards Communicate real-time market information to manager as well as cash and term traders Ensure accurate and timely entry of transactions into Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) software Develop professional relationships with power marketers and traders Provide generation and transmission schedules to ISO’s, control areas, and transmission providers What You’ll Need: Possess a technical degree (i.e. engineering, economics, finance, etc.), or have 5 years of prior experience in the utility industry with the proven ability to effectively make quantitative and economic decisions quickly. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and be able to effectively manage multiple tasks with precision and speed. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to conduct transactions via telephone, instant messaging and email. Demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as within a team atmosphere. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word are required. Microsoft Power Point knowledge is desirable.
