Traffic Clerk provides administrative and clerical support to the traffic operations function of an organization. Responsible for all aspects of routing, shipping, logging, and tracking of inbound and outbound orders. Being a Traffic Clerk contacts transporters for freight pick-up and ensures that cargo is routed appropriately. Communicates changes to routing and timelines. Additionally, Traffic Clerk prepares and processes bills of lading (BOL) and other shipping documentation. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Traffic Clerk works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Traffic Technician

  • To perform routine repair and maintenance of traffic control systems and signal equipment.
     


     CORE COMPETENCIES:
     
    Performs preventative maintenance on traffic signals.
     
    Maintains street signs on signal poles.
     
    Maintains pedestrian signals on signal poles.
     
    Installs detection cameras in the streets for traffic movement 
     
    Performs traffic counts. 
     
    Maintains and services signal lens and signal heads. 
     
    Maintains and services School signal flashers
     
    Work and assist with Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations
     
    Test traffic controller programming and traffic signal components. 
     
    Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy.
     
    Performs all On-Call assignments as outlined in the On-Call schedule and Departmental policy.
     
    Performs other duties as assigned.
     
    Education and Experience:
     
    1. Graduation from high school or equivalent, and
    2. Two (2) years of electrical maintenance or technical training in electrical maintenance or traffic signal maintenance, or
    3. Any equivalent combination or related education and experience
       
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
     
    1. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
    2. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
    3. Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion
    4. Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment
    5. Ability to drive and use a bucket truck
    6. Working knowledge of safety equipment
    7. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public
    8. Knowledge of traffic applications of software
    9. Knowledge of electricity and electronic equipment testing
    10. Working knowledge of problems of working with electricity
    11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
       
    Special Requirements:
     
    1. Must have a valid Texas Class C license by date of hire and comply with all City of Killeen driving policy
    2. Must have or acquire Level 1 Signal Certification within eighteen (18) months from date of hire as required by City and position
    3. Must be physically capable of moving about on work sites and under adverse field conditions
    4. Must have or acquire within thirty(30) days from date of hire all National Institute Management Systems (NIMS) certifications as required by City and position
    .
    Tools and Equipment Used
    Various equipment and tools used in signal maintenance, Traffic controllers, motor vehicle, bucket truck (aerial lift), telephone, mobile radio, hand tools such as hand drill, power saw, hammer, screwdriver, and various safety equipment.

    Work is performed mostly in shop area and outdoors.  Outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities.  Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment.
     
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to stand, talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
     
    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions.     The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
