A Sr. Engineering Technician - Traffic position is available with the city of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Work Department's Traffic Signal Team.  This role will provide signal operation and traffic signal design services. Individuals in the position will utilize state-of-the-art advanced traffic management system and ITS system; perform data collection and manage databases, configure and program traffic signal devices.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in traffic signal and ITS devices.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Municipal traffic engineering experience includes but is not limited to traffic signal cabinets, traffic signal operations, traffic signal cabling, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) devices, network connectivity or traffic data collections.
• Computer software experience in MS Excel, Word, and Google Earth.
• Customer service experience.

The Sr. Engineering Technician - Traffic job responsibilities include:

• Assist annual traffic signal retiming program by investigating, troubleshooting, collecting performance data in timely manner.
• Manage network connectivity of ITS devices, coordinate with IT solution and vendor for ITS device configuration, testing and integration of new ITS devices in the city network.
• Address citizen trouble call, field investigation and provide update to the citizen.
• Manage databases for asset, devices or materials and manage ITS device expansion projects as needed.
• Provide support during after hours, including evenings and weekends, to assist in emergency situations, special events and inclement weather.
• Traffic data collection for traffic studies.
• Support TMC operation as needed.
• Coordinate with professional/technical staff and assist in traffic signal activation.

Physical Demands

Light Work- Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pound of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the sedentary work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
