Traffic Director leads and directs the traffic department to efficiently and safely move materials and products to designated destinations. Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize delivery costs. Being a Traffic Director evaluates and selects appropriate transportation carriers and routes. Resolves delivery issues for both internal and external customers. Additionally, Traffic Director monitors, analyzes, and reviews loss and damage claims and makes recommendations for improved safety. Oversees costs and processes to adhere to budgets. Ensures compliance with all DOT/OSHA guidelines. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Traffic Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Traffic Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Safely directs movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand and flag signals. 2. Rotate holding flag and operating the pilot car. 3. Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications. 4. Perform flagging or laboring duties as needed. 5. May operate small powered hand tools. 6. May operate skid loader. 7. Hook-up and unhook small trailer to pick-up. 8. Fill sandbags. 9. Communicated effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others. Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors. 10. Ensure Safety and Environmental regulation compliance. 11. Perform other duties as assigned. |
