Traffic Director leads and directs the traffic department to efficiently and safely move materials and products to designated destinations. Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize delivery costs. Being a Traffic Director evaluates and selects appropriate transportation carriers and routes. Resolves delivery issues for both internal and external customers. Additionally, Traffic Director monitors, analyzes, and reviews loss and damage claims and makes recommendations for improved safety. Oversees costs and processes to adhere to budgets. Ensures compliance with all DOT/OSHA guidelines. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Traffic Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Summary
Provide plant level Traffic support to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled from communications with Customer Service through delivery of the product by truck and rail.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within his / her sphere of influence.
This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.
1. Serves as backup in absence of the Shipping Supervisor.
2. Schedules railcar activity with railroad based on customer needs and railcar availability; provides reports to internal departments.
3. Completes rail bills of lading.
4. Secures and schedules carriers for outbound collect freight as needed. This information is communicated through the ERP system such as Oracle.
5. Works as a liaison for the plant and HEM Logistics and third-party logistics contractors.
6. Communicates with Coordinators / Mill Areas to facilitate short notice order changes.
7. May communicate directly with customers and enter customer orders. Performs other aspects of customer service as needed.
8. Traces truck and rail inbound and outbound shipments (as requested) and advises the Customer Service Department and third-party contractors as needed of transit status.
9. Responsible for Department administrative file system and related filing.
10. Keeps up to date R / R fleet information to be used for internal and production department.
11. Monitors Rail efficiency and works as liaison with production to make improvements.
12. Backs up other Shipping Dept employees as needed.
13. Must take a proactive part in company safety programs.
14. Employee must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor.

15. Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to ensure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
16. Follows FSMA guidelines in the daily production of product.
Specialized / Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
Ability to build and maintain internal and external customer relationship based on trust and value.
MSHA required training will follow Quincy’s Part 48 Training Plan including New Miner training and annual refresher. Prior MSHA training will be acceptable if proper documentation can be produced.
