  • Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Training Center Director and the Principal Owner, the Driver Trainer performs duties related to delivering the appropriate curriculum as set forth by Black Wolf CDL Training Center.  The Driver Trainer is expected to create a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.  This position requires strong training skills, and calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work harmoniously with all levels of management, staff, and students.KEY DUTIES (include but not limited to)Instruction:Preparing and delivering instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.Prepare classroom and range for class activities.Follow the syllabus and lessons set forth by the Training Center Director Promote safe and friendly learning environment.Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.Use relevant technology to support instruction.Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and communicate these to the Training Center director.Assure that students meet all skill/course outcomes as shown in the Syllabus.Assess student learning abilities through formative and summative evaluation techniques.Provide appropriate and honest feedback progress to the student.Provide remediation trainingInform Training Center Director of student issues such as: behavioral, academic, or personalManage student behavior in the classroom and the range by enforcing rules and proceduresMeet all curriculum requirements for instructing individuals on the range:Pre-Trip InspectionsStraight line backing, Off-set backing (driver-side and blind-side), Parallel parking (driver-side and blind-side)Shifting a ten-speed transmission up and downLane centering, lane changes and freeway drivingPerforming right and left turns, maneuvering tight situations and turns, including multiple-lane turnsHazard perception, visual search, and sign recognitionRecord keeping:Maintaining accurate and complete records of student progress and developmentUpdate all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, policies, and training center regulations.Maintain student attendance sheets and ensure students sign in and out on the appropriate sheets.Keep the Training Director up to date of student progress through verbal, and written communication Other related and non-related dutiesKeep equipment, trucks, classrooms, and training grounds clean and well maintained – especially during health pandemics such as COVID-19Follow all health department, state and federal laws concerning health warnings and observe all directives given i.e. masks, hand sanitizer use and availability in classrooms and in vehicles, cleaning of all equipment after the each student used the equipment, environment or materials.Perform certain pastoral duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragementThis is a high paced, goal-orientated environment where patience is a must! Trainer’s Professional Development DutiesKeep up to date with developments in subject area – that means the trainer must do some self -study.Attend mandatory professional development training provided by the Training Center Director or other institutions i.e. CVTA.Attend meetings and staff training sessions.Performs any other duties within reason as assigned by Training Center Director or Principal Owner.QualificationsEducation and Experience:A high school diploma or GED, CDL and three years of tractor-trailer experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.Must have a teaching credential or at least three or more years of verifiable training experience (in any profession). All Driver trainers should demonstrate the following:Knowledge of: (at entry)Considerable knowledge of CDL requirements.Considerable knowledge of equipment.Ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data, and to prepare reports.Computer applications related to the work.Techniques for effectively representing Black Wolf CDL Training Center, including making effective public presentations and dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.Skill in: (at entry)Exceptional driving and training skills.Command of the English language.  Command of the Spanish language – a plusThe ability to be flexible, and interface professionally with all levels of students, customers, or colleagues,Demonstrate outstanding instructional skills and the ability to adapt their teaching methodology to cater to individual training needs of each student.Patience (lots and lots of it).A Genuine friendly attitudeAbility to accurately maintain and organize paperwork.Managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines.Preparing clear, concise, and informative reports, correspondence, and other written materials.Must be able to work independently.
