Training Director directs the design, planning, and implementation of corporate training programs aligned with the objectives and strategy of the company. Collaborates with functional management teams to assess ongoing and future training and development needs as well as effectiveness of established programs. Being a Training Director develops a program delivery schedule that provides training as needed and in locations that work for the participants. Provides engaging communications about program information to encourage participation and highlight the value and benefits of training. Additionally, Training Director approves new training techniques and suggests enhancements to existing training programs. Oversees and establishes relationships with vendors to provide additional outside training programs. Manages and develops training professionals. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Training Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Job Overview:
We are seeking an entry level Dog Trainer to join our Day School team, but will also consider applications from experienced trainers. We're willing to train the right candidate with a passion for learning our craft. You will be responsible for providing training and care to the dogs in our Day School intensive training program as well as instructing their families in maintaining that training. This is a rewarding opportunity to learn from a team of experienced trainers including 2 behavior consultants with over 25 years of experience while working to help dogs and their families understand each other and live in harmony.
We are in the middle of an expansion of our Oxford location and plan a Cincinnati expansion in late 2024 or early 2025, so there is tremendous potential for advancement.
Duties:
- Conduct one-on-one training sessions in our facility and on "field trips" with our day school dogs while their owners are at work.
- Conduct weekly lessons and provide remote support to help owners' maintain and build upon what we teach their dogs.
- Teach group classes
- Oversee small highly structured play groups of our Day School and Stay'n'Play dogs that incorporate trained behaviors and reinforcement of manners into that play.
- Assess dogs' behavior and develop customized training plans to address specific needs
- Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to encourage desired behaviors
- Provide patient and enthusiastic guidance and support to dog owners on training methods and techniques
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, including progress notes and behavior assessments
- Assist with the care and handling of dogs in the facility as needed
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in dog training or related field (e.g., veterinary assistant, kennel, pet grooming, equine, academic animal behavior studies)
- Strong knowledge of or passionate interest in animal behavior, learning theory, and positive reinforcement training methods
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively teach and explain concepts to dog owners
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for animals AND their people
- Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments safely and confidently
- Willingness to take initiative
- Certification in dog training or willingness to pursue certification is a plus
