Training Director directs the design, planning, and implementation of corporate training programs aligned with the objectives and strategy of the company. Collaborates with functional management teams to assess ongoing and future training and development needs as well as effectiveness of established programs. Being a Training Director develops a program delivery schedule that provides training as needed and in locations that work for the participants. Provides engaging communications about program information to encourage participation and highlight the value and benefits of training. Additionally, Training Director approves new training techniques and suggests enhancements to existing training programs. Oversees and establishes relationships with vendors to provide additional outside training programs. Manages and develops training professionals. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Training Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Training Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Detailed Job Description

    • Oversee all aspects the clinical training program, including management of financial, human, and physical resources related to the training program. Duties include maintaining relationships with academic training programs, affiliation agreements, recruitment initiatives, trainee curriculum management, supervisor development, trainee and supervisor evaluations, documentation review, training program reports, and accreditation acquisition and maintenance. Monitor and implement best training practices through active engagement in relevant professional organizations such as the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies (ACCTA). Direct the work of assigned staff, conduct routine meetings as well as annual and semi-annual performance evaluations, encourage professional development, develop strategies to resolve issues negatively affecting staff performance, advocate for the personnel needs, approve leave requests.
    • As a member of the Counseling and Psychological Services senior leadership team, in coordination with the Associate Director of Clinical Services and the Associate Director of Campus Engagement, provide backup administrative support in the Director's absence. Maintain a lead role in the development, maintenance and oversight of department policies and procedures; Design and implement department activities and provide leadership to selected strategic initiatives as assigned; Lead in the acquisition and maintenance of department accreditation through development of documented office policies and procedures, as well as department self-assessment.
    • Provide individual and group counseling services, including intake evaluations, mental health interventions, walk-in services, treatment follow-up, and appropriate referrals, to a culturally diverse undergraduate and graduate student population. Direct clinical service may include providing community referrals, working with student families and campus community members. Direct service may occur in the counseling center and in embedded locations on campus.
    • Complete and maintain clinical documentation, including, but not limited to, intake evaluations, clinical progress notes for individual, group, and crisis intervention sessions, psychiatric referrals, and suicide risk assessments, in a thorough and timely manner.
    • Provide consultation and education outreach to the RIT community regarding student mental health and wellness through the design and delivery of educational seminars, presentations, and training programs and represent the RIT Counseling and Psychological Services at university events and committees.
    • Participate on department, division and campus committees and work groups as assigned. Other administrative responsibilities and duties as assigned.

    Department/College Description

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education:
    • Ph.D/Psy.D in Counseling or Clinical Psychology


    Experience:
    • Must have 3-5 years of practice after the receipt of doctoral degree from an APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
    • Will have completed a supervised doctoral internship accredited by the APA with a minimum of 2000 hours
    • Will be licensed as a psychologist in NYS or licensed as a psychologist in another state and able to obtain NYS licensure within one year from date of hire

    Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to negotiate affiliation agreements/MOUs with graduate programs
    • Demonstrated ability to onboard new trainees (creation of computer accounts, registration with the university/IDs, orientation to policies/procedures/record keeping, etc.)
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate orientation programming, speakers, team building, event planning, etc.
    • Demonstrated skill in curriculum development (supervisor supervision group curriculum, didactic seminar curriculum, group therapy seminar curriculum, group supervision seminar curriculum, training program model/curriculum, etc.)
    • Experience in policy development (creation/revision of training manual, supervisor manual, others as needed)
    • Experience in development/maintenance/execution/resolution of remediation plans for trainees not meeting expectations
    • Demonstrated experience in the hiring process (recruitment, interviewing, offers/rejections of applicants)
    • Ability to build and maintain partnerships with graduate programs in mental health
    • Ability to facilitate supervisor development training/supervision
    • Experience in the performance appraisal process for trainees and clinical supervisors
    • Experience in overseeing caseloads for trainees/supervisors (establishing minimum requirements for client contacts, establishing growth/maintenance of clinical caseloads for trainees/supervisors, etc.)
    • Clinical experience providing assessment and intervention in settings providing mental health services to varied clinical populations, such as college counseling centers, outpatient mental health facilities, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, or medical center/hospital settings.
    • Extensive experience working with diverse clinical populations.
    • Experience in emergency/crisis intervention and with clients who present with complex and severe psychopathology
    • Familiarity with and experience in using evidence-based practices in clinical assessment and intervention required. Experience in administering and interpreting psychological assessments, inventories and reports related to psychopathology and cognitive and learning disorders
    • Knowledge of integrative brief solution-focused models of psychotherapy.
    • Familiarity with college populations including students of color, LGBTQ students, international students, and first-generation students
    • Knowledge of career and collegiate mental health counseling
    • Experience forging strong working relationships with other higher education professionals and ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with appropriate referral sources for students
    • Understanding of, and compliance with, the ethical and legal issues involved in the provision of clinical services
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience providing multi-culturally sensitive and evidence-based services to clients from diverse backgrounds and identities
    • Computer/technological competence using office productivity, word processing, database, email, electronic record keeping and other enterprise software systems
    • Although serving a hearing population, a willingness to become familiar with Deaf culture and ASL
    • Ability to work occasional evening hours and weekend hours
    • Maintain membership and active engagement in the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies (ACCTA).
