Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Office and Director of Education, the nurse residency coordinator is responsible for the successful mentoring, training, competency validation and continuing education of the graduate nurses enrolled in the nurse residency program. He/she prioritizes the needs of the nurse residents, collaborating with preceptors/mentors to assure smooth transition from student into the professional practice role.
Essential Functions:
• In collaboration with leadership and the education department, assists with the development and implementation of effective orientation/onboarding processes for orientation, training and competency validation of new hires.
• Assists with implementation and operation of the RN nurse residency (apprenticeship) program.
• Facilitates on-going coordination of residency sessions, curriculum, and residents/participants.
• Oversees day to day functions of the nurse residency program
• Communicates with and verifies that residents/participants meet orientation and program requirements in established time frame. Identify learning needs/practice gaps of the residents/participants.
• Serves as a resource across all inpatient units.
• Facilitates data collection and reporting for all internal and external reports. Evaluate trends for quality improvement.
• Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with nursing leadership and staff. The coordinator acts as an educator, a mentor, and a liaison to nursing leadership.
• Serves as a formal and informal mentor for new staff members and serves as a mentor to new preceptors to ensure success in their role. Acts as preceptor/mentor support person as needed.
• Collaborates with directors/managers to determine other necessary functions.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge.
• Other duties as assigned.
