    Job Summary
    : Assists the Senior Clinical Director in the organization and daily function of the Surgery Center in accordance with established Federal, State and Accreditation Standards. Directs all activities of the Center in accordance with association recommended standards for perioperative nursing care and MPSC policies and procedures. Assists in overseeing patient care and staffing activities in PACU and the OR. Maintains a high standard of safety for the patient and other staff members. Responsible for maintenance of equipment, adequate supply inventory, PACU and OR orientation, complete and accurate medical records, and assists with the oversight of personnel scheduling and the Quality Improvement Program. Essential responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:


    Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner. Promotes effective communication among the facility’s clinical areas, business office, and physician practices.


    Professional Competence
    : Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences. Shares knowledge gained in continuing education with staff. Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities. Welcomes suggestions and recommendations. Make suggestions to other Clinical Directors and/or Director of Education for continuing education of clinical staff members. Assists with comprehensive and informative orientation programs for new employees in the clinical area.


    Pattent Care

    • Applies accepted clinical nursing principles and best practices to patient care activities in the facility
    • Assists in coordination of patient-care activities with surgeons and anesthesia providers to provide continuity of patient care
    • Assists facility staff in identifying and solving problems with nursing care provided
    • Oversees all nursing activities during emergencies to verify that patient needs are met
    • Participates in primary care of patients as needed and oversees clinical areas to verify that patient needs are met
    • Enforces nursing practice standards, licensing and accreditation rules and regulations to provide quality patient care.
    • Recommends revision of patient-care policies and procedures as necessary to conform to accepted principles and practices
    • Respects patients’ rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
    • Supervises care of the operating room area and equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility, and operational ability at all times
    • Controls patient and staff traffic to help prevent infections

    Daily Operations

    • Assists in coordination and monitoring of operational activities for effective and efficient management of daily operation; reports deficiencies to administrator
    • Assists in preparation of staffing schedules in accordance with vacations and holidays
    • Assists in daily personnel assignments and delegates duties according to experience and skill level to provide quality patient care
    • Assists in coordination and cross-training of clinical staff to create a productive work environment for all clinical areas
    • Reviews daily staff time
    • Assists in coordination of scheduling of procedures with scheduling personnel
    • Assists in the evaluation of the performance of all clinical personnel and works to continuously improve the quality of care and services
    • Assists in counseling clinical employees and makes recommendations for salary adjustments, promotions, and/or termination
    • Observes performance of all clinical staff members and provides feedback to clinical director
    • Interprets and implements established facility policies and procedures
    • Chairs or participates on designated committees
    • Analyzes clinical documentation to ensure facility’s policies and procedures are being followed
    • Serves as a liaison between patients, families, nursing, and medical staff to coordinate quality patient care
    • Promotes harmonious relations and favorable attitudes among the healthcare team
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

    Materials Management

    • Applies material-management principles to establish procedures for use
    • Promotes cost-effectiveness and implements procedures to control waste
    • Monitors the care and cleaning of equipment to maintain proper working conditions
    • Identifies and evaluates need for items relative to trends and physician requests
    • Reviews inventory for availability of supplies and equipment necessary to meet patient needs
    • Initiates and reviews requisitions to replenish inventory and to order new products
    • Oversees inventory, maintaining adequate supplies and equipment and providing for economical use
    • Monitors and verifies that required materials-management documentation (i.e., purchase orders, purchase logs, etc.) is current and complete


    Required Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

    • Must have at least 3-4 years OR experience
    • Must have healthcare management experience
    • Current RN California License
    • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS Certifications
    • Evidence of strong leadership qualities, with strong ethical and moral character references
    • Cooperative work attitude toward co-workers, management, patients, visitors, and physician
    • Ability to independently make decisions and solve problems
    • Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies and general public
