Translator translates written and spoken information from one language to another. Reads, comprehends, and rewrites materials in designated languages following established linguistic rules related to word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. Being a Translator must be well versed in vocabulary dealing with specialty. Must follow ethical procedures and policies that protect the confidentiality of information. Additionally, Translator may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Translator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
Provides professional interpretation and translation services on a contractual basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Facilitate effective communication between two parties that do not speak a similar language by
converting one spoken language to another.
* Attend conferences, meetings, and hearings and act as official translator to mediate discussion.
* Create a new text in the target language that reproduces the content and style of the original.
* Edit and proofread text to accurately reflect language.
* Receive and submit assignments electronically.
* Facilitate communication for people with limited English proficiency.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in World Languages/Spanish or other related field preferred.
* Certificate of completion of an ethical training provided by an accredited program.
* Superior verbal and written multi-lingual skills.
* Experience working with limited English proficient populations.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
