Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Director of Bus Operations is responsible for delivery of the fixed route bus and paratransit operation authorized by the DCTA and NTMC Boards of Directors to provide high quality services to customers. This includes planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the day-to-day activities of bus operations and the NTMC organization including hiring, evaluation, and termination of employees. The position reports to the NTMC President in execution of day-to-day duties to ensure operational alignment with NTMC objectives. Provides transformational leadership to the organization by identifying opportunities for efficiency, continuous improvement and delivering information, alternatives, and recommendations regarding operations, organizational structure, and services. Ensures service is operated in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and consistent with established policies, procedures, plans, and budgets. The Director of Bus Operations is responsible to the Board of Directors for NTMC’s compliance with the Interlocal Agreement for Transportation Operation Services between NTMC and DCTA and any amendments or supplements thereto.
