Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Transportation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Purpose Statement
The job of Director of Transportation is done for the purpose/s of leading and directing student transportation programs and services for the school district; ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the department; overseeing the scheduling of bus routes, and the maintenance of buses; ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations; and managing a team of bus drivers and support staff.

Work Environment

Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
