Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital (TFH), is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. The Floating Hospital welcomes individuals of all ages, from infants, school age children (5 ), youth and adults. TFH is a Federally Qualified Health Center and the largest provider to homeless families living in family shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs.
Essential duties include:
• Coordinate transportation services for all five boroughs.
• Coordinate with schedulers for the daily pick-up schedule.
• Direct drivers in relation to client pickups.
• Manage the driver and dispatcher schedules.
• Manage all transportation logs.
• Manage department personnel time sheets, including reviews and justifications of overtime, and the adjusting of schedules accordingly.
• Manage the disbursement of MetroCards.
• Responsible for training all drivers and dispatchers.
• Manage insurance claims and incident reports in a timely fashion.
• Maintain DOT parking permits and registration, ensuring that they remain current.
• Responsible for maintaining fleet of vans and arranging auto service and vehicle maintenance when necessary.
• Secure rental vans when necessary.
• Assist patients during their visit at TFH.
• Act as an interpreter.
• Conduct interviews with potential candidates for employment.
• Liaise with the Finance Department regarding vehicular maintenance.
• Schedule and oversee regular meetings with the Transportation team to review progress, policies and procedures, transportation issues and update team on clinic activities.
• Attend, and report to, all applicable QI programs and meetings.
• Other duties as required.
Requirements
High School or equivalent, higher education preferred. Must be bi-lingual English/Spanish speaking and possess 3-5 years of managing a transportation department and staff; well organized and accustomed to working in a high-volume environment; should be able to effectively interact with all levels of management and staff.
