The Dulles Area Transportation Association (DATA), a 501(c)(3) transportation management association (TMA), is a public-private partnership that identifies access and mobility issues in the greater Dulles area and helps to develop solutions that will resolve them, primarily through employer and residential outreach and educational events and programs. DATA's service area encompasses 355-square mile area in portions of western Fairfax, eastern Loudoun, and northern Prince William Counties, with over 700,000 residents and 450,000 employees. Over the past 7 years DATA has been providing on-site transportation services targeting underserved and non-English speaking clients. In 2021 DATA established its Veterans Connect program, an initiative to recruit veteran volunteers to provide rides to important appointments for disable and elderly veterans. Transportation Specialist II
STATUS: Full time, Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Director of Programs, the Transportation Specialist implements and manages client initiatives in assigned markets for the suite of DATA’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program services.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK/RESPONSIBILITIES: (This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities or qualifications associated with the job).
· Under the direction of the Director of Programs, implement and manage client related initiatives in assigned markets for the suite of DATA’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program services. As the region recovers from the COVID years, and the opening of METRO’s Silver Line Phase II, DATA is working with local employers to: encourage the implementation of commuter benefit programs or expanding existing programs; find suitable employee carpool or vanpool opportunities; develop formal telework programs; educate employers and employees about Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH), Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC), Plu$50, and other approved TDM related activities.
· Develop client relationships with employer contacts such as Human Resource Directors or other employer personnel responsible for employee hiring, retention and benefit coordination.
· Prospect for new business, generate and distribute leads to DATA’s TDM Partners as appropriate, fulfill service requests in assigned markets.
· Initiate and conduct personal visits to target prospects.
· Attend local events sponsored by chambers of commerce or other entities, trade shows and/or host events to promote DATA’s TDM Program suite of services.
· Prepare and conduct presentations for employer and employee groups, and other professional organizations such as the Society of Human Resources Managers.
· Ensure quality customer service and the delivery of DATA’s TDM Program products and services.
· Document and report client activities to meet program metrics and performance goals.
· Ability to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on program/grant activities.
· Enter and maintain client data and other information for existing or prospective clients into appropriate databases (ACT).
· Investigate and resolve client problems.
· Stay abreast of industry trends and practices and maintain awareness of market shifts.
· Train and work with employers and DATA’s TDM Partners to advance utilization of TDM suite of services.
· Develop and maintain knowledge of successful transportation demand management techniques and actively recommend best practices to the Director of Programs and the President/CEO.
· Exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities.
· Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision, demonstrate an ability to multi-task.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
· Working knowledge in areas of client relationship building.
· Persuasive negotiation skills with emphasis in securing new clients.
· Comfortable making cold calls.
· Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment and ability to communicate in a professional manner with diverse audiences.
· Proven problem analysis, resolution and analytical skills.
· Ability to:
o prioritize and manage multiple projects/responsibilities while meeting stringent deadlines,
o communicate effectively orally and in writing,

· Familiarity with TDM services desirable, a background in sales or client relationships will be strongly considered.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree preferable.
· Three (3) to five (5) years of Experience in sales or client relationships; or
· Three (3) to five (5) years of applicable experience.
· Equivalent combination of applicable education and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Virginia driver license and access to an automobile imperative.
· This position is 80% remote work environment, applicant must be able to provide a good work situation to accomplish the requirements of the position. Work demands being on-site at employer locations, attending events and meetings on weekends and evenings.
COMPENSATION:
Paid sick leave and personal time off, matching 401k Plan, federal holidays, potential for healthcare subsidy, flexible scheduling will be considered, and salary will be determined on qualifications. Salary range - $43,000 - $60,000 annually.
