Description:
To plan, organize, implement, and supervise the pupil transportation system for all public and non-public school students who reside in the Spring Grove Area School District.
Job Summary:
- Develop bus routes designed to transport students to appropriate locations in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, and in accordance with applicable School Board policies and state regulations.
- Evaluate requests for alterations in the transportation system based on the above criteria.
- Assign students to appropriate bus routes and stops making sure that seating is provided for all eligible students.
- Maintain up-to-date bus rider lists.
- Prepare maps showing bus routes and stops.
- Operate the Transportation Computer Program.
- Serve as liaison between principals and drivers dealing with student discipline, student/parent complaints, etc.
- Arrange for transportation to school-related events, other than to and from school, as approved by the Superintendent, including all field trips, athletic contests, swimming programs and assemblies.
- Ensure and document all drivers employed by the contractors have met all regulations of the Bureau of Traffic Safety of the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation, all are properly licensed, have Act 34 and Act 151 clearances and have received the approval of the School Board.
- Coordinate with contractors in-service training for contracted bus drivers, including meetings with School District Staff.
- Conduct safety programs for students in grades K-12 in cooperation with building principals.
- Compile data and prepare forms and reports relating to the transportation system as required by the Director of Business Operations / Business Manager.
- Assist the Director of Business Operations / Business Manager in the preparation and evaluation of bid documents, proposals and contracts relating to the transportation system.
- Complete all annual and periodic state transportation reports in a timely manner including student rosters, mileage verification forms, maintenance records, gasoline records, etc. and maintain records to substantiate these reports.
- Act as liaison between the District and contractors for the resolution of conflict.
- Prepare the transportation budget with the assistance of the Director of Business Operations / Business Manager.
- Audit all contracted routes as to time and daily mileage.
- Maintain fuel use records where fuel is furnished to contractors, with periodic analysis and audit for accuracy and reasonableness.
- Prepare purchase orders for all expenditures dealing with transportation.
- Maintain records of all expenses dealing with the transportation budget.
- Attend all kindergarten registration sessions and provide information to parents concerning transportation issues.
- Attend kindergarten orientations sessions and inform parents of busing procedures and bus safety.
- Assist elementary principals with assignment of new student enrollees.
- Assist with assignment of kindergarten students and transfer students.
- Assist with school bus accidents.
- Operate the 2-way communication system between the transportation office and the school buses.
- Provide recommendations to the Superintendent, Director of Business Operations / Business Manager and other appropriate personnel in cases of inclement weather, road conditions, road hazards or other conditions that may impact the transportation of students.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Business Operations / Business Manager.
Qualifications:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School Graduate
Demonstrated ability and experience in the effective communication in oral and written form
Computer experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Transportation Systems
Valid Driver’s License

Receipt of current, favorable clearances including: Pennsylvania State Criminal History (Act 34), Federal Criminal History (FBI – Fingerprinting - Act 114), Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Act 151), and Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Disclosures (Act 168).
