    Job Description



    As a Transportation Engineer, oversee multiple trunkline projects in St. Joseph County, and serve as a backup for Calhoun and Branch counties, for small and moderately sized federal and state funded road, bridge and allied transportation projects with up to 100 pay items. Manage a portion of the Transportation Service Center (TSC) Local Agency construction program (Branch and St. Joseph County, and as a backup resource to Calhoun County). Perform field reviews on active TSC Local Agency projects for certification acceptance. Be a resource for technicians, interns and engineers in highway design and construction. Assist the Construction Engineer and designers in developing and delivering all aspects of the transportation product.


    The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

    Required Education and Experience

    Education

    Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

    Note: We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor of science degree in engineering by May 31, 2024.

    Transportation Engineer 9
    No specific type or amount is required.

    Transportation Engineer 10
    One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

    Transportation Engineer P11
    Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.

    Transportation Engineer 12
    Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to
    a Transportation Engineer P11.

    Alternate Education and Experience

    Transportation Engineer 9 - 12

    Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.

    Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
