The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Davidson County Maintenance team.
In this role, you will:
- Perform progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State Maintained roads and road features.
- Install pipes and perform shoulder and ditch maintenance.
- Perform asphalt pavement repair.
- Install traffic control and erosion control devices.
- Operate construction equipment, including hand, and power tools.
- Respond to emergency situations including traffic accidents, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies.
- Operate equipment, such as a backhoe, track hoe, track loader, skid steer, and dump truck.
- Transport inmates for work details.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices.
- Experience in 1 of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others in equipment operations and directing work crew daily activities.
- Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
- Experience in the operation of at 2 pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer, or sweeper.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Still apply if you don't have this yet. You can get it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire.)
- Safety toe shoes.
Notes
- You will be subject to outside extreme environmental conditions, in addition to hazards at highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.
- An inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety must be issued to NCDOT employees to transport inmates. In order to obtain an inmate card you must undergo a criminal history check, complete necessary training and orientation, and be at least 21 years old.
- We will conduct a pre-employment criminal history check, drug test, and check with your employers over the past 3 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
Education & Experience
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 5 years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
