Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Transportation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. PRIMARY FUNCTION :
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :
Responsible for the accuracy and reconciliation of securement inventory
Responsible for managing a pool of trailers to ensure the availability for customer loading purposes
Inspecting trailers and having damaged trailers to be serviced
Communicating and coordinating with operations and maintenance personnel
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE :
High School diploma required
Transportation and / or prior loading experience preferred
Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress
Ability to negotiate, plan and organize, has strong attention to detail, and problem solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
