Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Transportation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Job Summary The Transportation Technology Manager will spearhead transportation initiatives on behalf of UFP Transportation. The Transportation Technology Manager will research and evaluate software solutions, champion new initiatives, and drive technology improvements within the Transportation Company. Works under general direction of a VP of Planning & Analysis; relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Leads and directs the work of others. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Work with all transportation departments on software selection process for new and replacement software solutions Work with transportation team to implement software and process changes Manage TMS Administrators Develop relationships with vendors to be part of development roadmap Work with the BAA team to develop MSR system and process changes or develop new internal software applications Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through new technologies Ensure new transportation-based employees have the tools required to perform their job function Lead training and engagement sessions to increase general IT knowledge of users Troubleshoots software related issues in a wide array of software applications for all purchasing users Measure the impact and performance of newly implemented systems and processes Prepares various reports as required Performs other duties as required Requirements Working knowledge of transportation industry Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, or related field Working knowledge of ERP (MSR, Epicor) systems preferred Working knowledge of TMS (Intellitrans, Ditat) systems preferred Proficiency in all Microsoft 365 applications especially Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI Working knowledge of ECM (Sharepoint, OnBase, Kofax) systems preferred. Preferred experience with Data Analytics and Predictive Analytic modeling Preferred experience and knowledge of UFP’s organization and culture Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking Ability to successfully interact and communicate with all organizational levels and the public, including leading large-scale presentations to audiences with varying technical skills Ability to learn new computer software applications quickly Logical, process-oriented nature Ability to communicate clearly via video conference, phone and email with customers, vendors and co-workers Ability to identify and pursue opportunities for improvement in business processes and systems Must work out of a corporate or transportation office.
