    DESCRIPTION

    An entry level General Clerk serves taxpayers in person, by telephone and in writing. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, providing personal, friendly customer service.

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree required preferably in accounting.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Must have outstanding “people skills”, 3 years of experience working in an office with general filing experience, the ability to create excel spreadsheets, reconcile bank accounts, maintain an outstanding check list, use a 10-key adding machine, write business letters, compile permanent records.

    Also required: 1 year of cashier/teller experience with responsibility for balancing cash, checks and credit cards to a daily report.

    All staff must be able to work independently with accuracy and conformity to the established procedures and policies.

    The organization requires a criminal background check, drug screen and credit bureau check with no outstanding debt greater than 30 days delinquent.

    Must be able to sit and stand for an 8 hour shift and to use fingers and hands to operate equipment.

    Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus from printed documents to the computer screen.

    DUTIES

    · Post to AS400: cash and check payments, account transfers, wire transfers and direct deposits.

    · Run report and reconcile daily receivables to general ledger.

    · Complete bank deposit for each account.

    · Address taxpayer complaints and resolve problems in accordance with state codes.

    · Use 10 key adding machine to run tape to reconcile computer reports.

    · Update monthly reports using excel spreadsheets. Create new spreadsheets as necessary.

    · Write letters to taxpayers and create tax account summary documents.

    · Compile and assemble permanent records to be used for internal and external auditors.

    · Keep all office and work related information and material confidential.

    ATTENDANCE

    · City Treasurer’s Office: Monday through Friday 8:15 to 5:15.

    · Time off requires advance approval. Time off is not approved during tax collection due dates or report deadlines.
