Truck Driver - Tractor Trailer operates a large or heavy truck that transports cargo to and from specified locations on time and according to schedule. Operates vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to all DOT and company safety regulations. Being a Truck Driver - Tractor Trailer conducts routine inspections prior to departure to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition. Manages appropriate cargo documentation and provides necessary paperwork upon the delivery of goods. Additionally, Truck Driver - Tractor Trailer coordinates the loading and unloading of the truck, verifying cargo and ensuring items are properly stored and secured. Maintains contact with dispatcher to provide status updates, clarify special instructions, and notify about delays or issues during transport. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. May require a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Typically reports to a supervisor. High school diploma or GED required. Three years of driving experience hauling heavy equipment is required. A valid CDL driver's license or the ability to obtain one is required. Must be able to drive a standard transmission vehicle. Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug screening test.
Drives tractor-trailer rated at least 50 tons capacity to deliver and pick up machines at customer job sites and Stowers' locations.
Loads and unloads heavy equipment and machinery.
Maintains current licenses and health card necessary to legally transport equipment.
Inspects tractor-trailer and related equipment to keep them operationally safe and reliable.
Completes shipping and receiving documents for Stowers and customer records.
Secures all loads with necessary chains and binders, and checks them periodically.
Uses sound judgment during adverse weather conditions and other situations to make safe driving decisions.
Performs emergency repairs as needed, such as changing tires, installing tire chains, etc.
Instructs customers on proper usage and maintenance of equipment delivered.
