ASSISTANT HEAD OF THE SCHOOL OF GRAMMAR
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Head of the Grammar School
Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide visionary leadership, culture shaping, and discipleship for all activities involving the School of Grammar community at Kingdom Preparatory Academy in collaboration with and deference to the Head of the School of Grammar.
Summary
The Assistant Head of the School of Grammar is charged with the comprehensive responsibility of all activities in the School of Grammar, as well as with creating and maintaining an ethos in this school that reflects KPA’s overall mission, vision, and values. This includes strategic planning; implementing KPA’s mission and vision in the School of Grammar culture; communicating to the Grammar school community; partnering with parents in education; participating in the admissions process; collaborating with the Grammar School Head in managing all School of Grammar personnel to include hiring, performance evaluation, and professional development; and overseeing Grammar School culture, student behavior, and academic progress.
Supervision Received and Exercised
The School of Grammar Assistant Head reports directly to the Head of the Grammar School. This individual must exercise judgment that aligns with KPA’s culture, philosophy, education, beliefs, and values. The Assistant Grammar School Head will, in collaboration and deference to the Grammar School Head, have formal supervisory authority over all Grammar School personnel.
Work Schedule
This is an exempt 30 hour-per-week, year-round position. In general, the workday is 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (includes 60 minutes for lunch), three days a week (Mon., Weds., Fri.). However, as an exempt employee, the employee is expected to work beyond the workday to perform duties outlined in the job description and as assigned. The expectation is that even during holidays and other time off, administrators will check messages and communicate with staff and families about time sensitive matters. During June, the workday may be reduced as the workload allows. Typically, attendance at one of the national conferences on classical, Christian, collaborative education takes place during the month of June. In July, administrators will work normally from 9am to 3pm Tuesday through Thursday. Absences during the school year should be minimal, limited to sick days and emergencies. In addition to holidays, six days of paid time off is available each year (unused days are not compensated or carried over), pending approval from the Head of School. Holidays include Labor Day, Thanksgiving (1 week), Christmas (3 weeks), Good Friday, Memorial Day, 4th of July.

Executive Leadership- Serve on the Headmaster’s Executive Administrative Team
- Contribute to the strategic planning process, especially as it relates to the needs and expectations of the School of Grammar
- In collaboration with and deference to the Grammar School Head, plan and supervise the implementation of KPA’s educational mission and vision as it relates to the School of Grammar, including academic curriculum
- Assist the Grammar School Head in articulating the programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies of the School of Grammar are fully informed
- Assist the Grammar School Head by supporting and guiding the faculty’s activities and performance of their duties
- In collaboration and deference to the Grammar School Head, plan and execute parent education and retention programs through venues such as the Paideia conference, guest lectures, newsletters, and other media
- Develop a culture of partnership with parents, appropriately involving them in the life of the School of Grammar, communicating effectively with them, and ensuring a culture of openness and sensitivity to parental concerns
- Assist in the admission process for interviewing and evaluating applicants for enrollment
- Exercise fiscal responsibility by staying within appropriate budgetary guidelines and submitting financial paperwork in an accurate, timely way

Personnel- In collaboration with and deference to the Grammar School Head, assist in the recruitment process and recommendation for employment of all faculty members within the School of Grammar
- Routinely observe faculty in the School of Grammar in the development and implementation of curriculum and the teaching process
- Assist with the establishment of programs for the orientation and training of all School of Grammar faculty to ensure that all are familiar with and adhere to KPA policies in all areas of the school operation
- Strive for unity, harmony and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of differences, abilities, and strengths of each faculty member
- Participate in regular meetings with the faculty and administration of the School of Grammar
- Serve as a consultant to faculty in the School of Grammar in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures
- Provide oversight and leadership to the ongoing curriculum development processes within the faculty and review recommendations for improvements
- Develop a culture of Christian love, servant leadership, teamwork, and professional responsibility within the faculty and staff
- In collaboration with and deference to the Grammar School Head, set annual professional development goals for faculty members in the School of Grammar
