Director, Community Engagement & Wellness

  • Lili’uokalani Center (LC): Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy. Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025. Job Purpose: The Director of Community Engagement & Wellness is responsible for collaboratively developing, modeling, and upholding an organization-wide vision of positive youth development rooted in Native Hawaiian culture with a focus on community engagement and holistic wellness. The Director will guide the vision and provide direct supervision to teammates overseeing outreach, community engagement, intake and assessment, volunteer management, youth leadership, and holistic wellness functions of the new LC, fostering an environment that values teamwork, collaboration, innovation, positivity, kindness, and inspiration. This leader will help set the culture and experience of the new Lili’uokalani Center and will focus on ensuring that mental, physical, and spiritual well-being is deeply integrated into programming. This leader will also develop and oversee community outreach and engagement efforts and the integration of youth leadership and youth voice. This position requires a passionate, fun-loving, and creative individual with strong leadership skills, cultural awareness, and a deep commitment to holistic wellbeing and youth development. This is a deeply collaborative role, and requires open-mindedness, flexibility, and a commitment to learning and growing. Essential Responsibilities: Program Oversight: Oversee, support, and coach a team of community and wellness staff to ensure intentional programming, evaluation, and benchmarks are met and aligned with LC goals and overall LT strategic outcomes. Oversee day to day operations of staff, schedules, budgets, and other administrative responsibilities. Work collaboratively with LC and LT leadership to increase program integration, focusing on ensuring that wraparound supports are built into programming across disciplines in meaningful ways Collaborate with teammates and other LC leaders to design and deliver culturally relevant programming that promotes holistic wellness, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Ensure that all programs adhere to best practices, safety protocols, and ethical standards, with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility. Through intentional programmatic development, design, and implementation, cultivate a sense of community and social/emotional support for participants Ensure that programming emphasizes global citizenship balanced with deep understanding of Native Hawaiian culture, highlighting opportunities for learning and advancement for participants while also strengthening ties to local communities Support the management of LT’s Youth Advisory Council and other youth leadership programming, focusing on increasing opportunities for youth voice and youth leadership throughout program development Work collaboratively with all teammates across the LT continuum to continuously develop creative, flexible, and meaningful programs, services, spaces, and events at LC Cultivate meaningful program and community partners to support LC community needs Community Engagement: Increase the accessibility and exposure of Lili'uokalani Center programs state-wide, additionally ensuring a feedback loop, integrating lessons learned state-wide into LC programming Develop strong relationships with statewide staff to consistently share program opportunities occurring at LC throughout the year and develop LT staff engagement opportunities. Build collaborative relationships with other organizations and community stakeholders to maximize capacity, exposure, and community investment and engagement Develop and implement strategies to engage with the local Native Hawaiian community, including youth, families, and community leaders. Oversee and manage, in collaboration with other LC leaders, an exciting and engaging schedule of community engagement events, workshops, and cultural activities Youth Engagement & Intake Collaboratively develop and oversee LC outreach strategies and initiatives In collaboration with other LT leaders, oversee the welcoming and orientation of new participants, ensuring ease of engagement, positive experience, and ongoing connection Ensure ongoing connection and regular outreach to participants, ensuring that youth have regular access to program information, schedules, and access points Work collaboratively with the Research and Evaluation team to ensure quality and timely participant data collection to inform program development and reporting Oversee LC’s “Champion” program, ensuring that each participant has an adult Champion to assist them in navigating LC programming Wellness Initiatives: In collaboration with other LT leaders, develop and oversee LC’s holistic wellness programming Support the oversight of external program partners pertaining to wellness initiatives Provide leadership in addressing health disparities and promoting health equity among Native Hawaiian youth, with a focus on addressing systemic barriers and social determinants of health Develop and implement creative and engaging wellness initiatives and interventions Support the integration and normalization of Native Hawaiian Wellness practices Advocate for and provide resources to support the integration of health and wellness practices across programming and throughout LT programs and services Organizational Support: Oversee relevant and appropriate memberships in collectives and associations Assist in the hiring and onboarding of new teammates Oversee student interns and volunteers, as appropriate, cultivating a strong and healthy learning environment Engage in ongoing quality assurance and evaluation efforts Work collaboratively with the Research & Evaluation team to design, oversee, and manage data collection processes that provide regular, actionable feedback from participants to inform program design Maintain oversight of data entry and ongoing use of Ho’okele, LT’s Salesforce system Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends in youth services and community wellness, ensuring that community initiatives and programmatic strategies are aligned with current needs and environment Work collaboratively with other program leaders to ensure appropriate staffing and supervision of all program spaces Provide ongoing support for all LC staff and engage in advocacy for LC Other duties: Participate in program planning, budget development, revision, and evaluation Provides transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations Participates in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development Contribute to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and collaborating as we strive to attain the Trust’s strategic goals Qualifications: LMSW or LCSW with SIFI certification preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required Comfort supervising students and serving as an internship program manager Deep grounding in adolescent mental health required At least eight years of experience in youth work Demonstrated experience in community engagement, program development, and youth leadership, particularly within Native Hawaiian communities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, facilitate dialogue, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Commitment to social justice, cultural preservation, and the empowerment of marginalized communities. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously. Experience in staff supervision, team building, and leadership development.
