    Position Title: Planned Giving & Trust Services Director

    Internal Title: Department Director

    Job Classification: Exempt - Regular Full Time

    Accountable to: Manager/Treasurer


    Position Summary:

    The Planned Giving & Trust Services Director is responsible for overseeing the planned giving functions for It Is Written, including direction and development of the Planned Giving & Trust Services (PGTS) Department, oversight of planned giving instruments/gifts, and manages planned giving donor relations. It is crucial that this position supports the mission and values of It Is Written by exemplifying the values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in all interactions.


    Authority & Accountability:

    Authority as delegated by and accountable to the It Is Written President and Manager/Treasurer in accordance with It Is Written’s policies and objectives.


    Essential Position Functions:

    • Perform overall supervision of and coordination of the PGTS Department:
      • Supervise and manage the department staff.
      • Ensure adherence to PGTS policies and procedures.
      • Oversee compliance with state and federal laws regarding planned giving and trust instruments
      • Monitor department functions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and protect donor confidentiality.
      • Establish annual goals, provide regular performance reviews and appropriate recognition, and support ongoing professional development opportunities.
    • Direct and coordinate the processes and procedures required to create new planned giving and trust instruments.
    • Manage planned giving maturity processing and financial reporting.
    • Maintain a functional and proactive planned giving donor database.
    • Routinely review individual estate plans with trustors and coordinates with estate planning attorneys to accomplish any needed or requested changes to the plans.
    • Responsible for the promotional activities of PGTS services to prospective clients.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with donors through ongoing communication.
    • Oversee the work product for PGTS contracted vendors.
    • Manage and coordinate the work product of the It Is Written Gift Acceptance/Trust Administration Committee.
    • Collaborate with Development Department on donor relations and fundraising initiatives.
    • Participate in fostering a culture of philanthropy by promoting planned giving throughout the organization.
    • Supervise preparedness for the three-year trust audits by the General Conference Auditing Services.
    • Represent It Is Written in the local community and be an active member of local organizations.
    • Represent It Is Written at occasional conferences, events, and meetings, as needed.
    • Fulfill other responsibilities and duties as assigned


    Position Specifications

    Qualifications, Scope, and The complexity of Duties:

    • Education

            High school diploma, or equivalent, is required.

            A bachelor’s degree in business, law, public relations, or related field is preferred.
            North Amerincan Division of Seventh-day Adventist Planned Giving and Trust Services Certification is required.

    • Experience:

           Minimum five (5) years experience in planned giving and trust services officer in a non-profit organization, or equivalent experience.

           Experience leading team members both on-site and remotely is preferred.

    • Membership and Mission:

           Embrace the mission and values of It Is Written and be a member in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.


    Skills, scope, and complexity of duties:

    • Possess expert technical knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies regarding planned giving and trust service concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
    • Demonstrate solid leadership skills to coordinate, plan, and execute the position functions.
    • Ability to exercise direction, independent judgment, make decisions, and assume responsibility.
    • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff and exhibit comfort building relationships with, and collaborating with, staff remotely.
    • Exhibit excellent organizational skills and follow through on tasks and goals.
    • Ability to oversee and manage large and complex projects to completion and manage details while seeing the big picture.

     Working Conditions:

    • Occasional moderate to high stress due to meeting critical deadlines.
    • General working conditions of an office and in the field—must maintain continuous operation, availability, and efficiency of the office.
    • Physical requirements: requires standing, walking, time at a desk, reaching, climbing, and lifting (maximum of 50 lbs.)
    • Travel flexibility to conferences, donor visits, and It Is Written events (e.g. ASI, GYC, Partnership weekends, camp meetings) and associated travel hazards.

           Specific Requirements:

    • 38 regular hours per week,
    • Will require periodic variable hours and weekend work.
    • No special clothing or safety gear required.
