Tumor Registrar identifies, registers, and maintains records of all cancer patients using tumor registry systems and software. Prepares abstracts and performs coding of clinical patient data related to cancer. Being a Tumor Registrar performs data analysis and provides reports used by researchers, physicians, institutions, and patients. Adheres to all coding and privacy policies, guidelines, and regulations. Additionally, Tumor Registrar may require an associate degree or equivalent. Requires Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential. May require Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tumor Registrar works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Purpose Statement

     

    The job of Registrar was established for the purpose/s of registering of students and maintaining computerized student records and files; providing student information to authorized parties in compliance with established policies; and providing general clerical support, information, and/or direction as assigned.

    This job reports to the site Principal

     

    Essential Functions

    • Assists with a variety of office activities (e.g. core data report, class counts, yearly incoming and outgoing student reports, summer letter, Graduation Survey Data, teacher check-out, staff roster, August registration, senior check-out, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the activities of the work unit.
    • Attends department and in-service meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
    • Compiles a variety of information and data (e.g. information for courts, course request scan sheets, courses offered and information related to those courses, grade information, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and accurate records.
    • Evaluates transcripts of incoming students for the purpose of transferring grades and semester credit hours into the student information system.
    • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g. grades, credits, transcripts, student information, affidavits related to student custody, record of locker assignments, testing data, official GPA rank listing, P1 and P2 reports, transfer requests and renewals, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance withestablished administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
    • Performs a variety of clerical tasks (e.g. stamps transcripts with date and official school seal, affixes labels to students’ permanent records, orders and prepares diplomas and awards, completes data processing tasks, updates locker combinations yearly, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the work unit.
    • Performs enrollment and withdrawal activities for the purpose of complying with established requirements.
    • Prepares standardized documents and reports (e.g. report cards, class schedules, form letters and memos, periodic reports, permanent records, A and B Honor Roll lists, 5% and 10% student lists, D and F list, accreditation report, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of information and communicating information to other parties and/or agencies.
    • Processes a variety of documents and materials (e.g. transcripts, non-active student transcripts, requests for transcripts for past graduates and current students, student records, lists of active or dropped students from the graduating class, progress reports, summer school grades, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information in response to requests from staff, students, other districts, colleges/universities and/or employment agencies.
    • Provides information to internal and external sources (e.g. notifies teachers of transfer grades for new students, verifies Drivers Education for students and insurance, sends copies of grade cards and progress reports to non-custodial parents, boxes information and sends to the special education department, sends transcripts for NCAA applications, notifies staff of grade card time lines, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
    • Verifies student related data (e.g. grades, demographic information, credits, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy of the student records.

    Other Functions

    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
