Being an UNIX Systems Administrator detects, diagnoses, and reports UNIX related problems on both UNIX server and UNIX desktop systems. Responsible for backup or recovery procedures. Additionally, UNIX Systems Administrator typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. This position serves as part of a team that supports the server and application infrastructure for the Billings Clinic health system. Responsibilities for this position include providing support, optimization, maintenance, strategy and design of the on premises and cloud infrastructure in order to facilitate and enhance the delivery of health care services in Billings Clinic and its regional partners.
This role is responsible for providing day-to-day support, maintenance and implementation of existing infrastructure as well as participation in guidance, planning and execution of improvements and future strategy. In addition to the technical knowledge/skills required to support the service infrastructure, other responsibilities include good documentation, complying with change control, and effective task management. Effective coordination, communication and interaction with other teams/departments, vendors and facilities in the health system is expected. This is a highly dynamic environment requiring members of this team to respond to the often-changing needs of the organization while maintaining a high level of uptime, service quality and redundancy

Serves as the primary technology resource for the assessment and mapping of current and future state with gap identification/analysis, design, implementation, on-going development and maintenance of server/cloud infrastructure. Coordinates closely with Billings Clinic Leadership, staff members, Information Technology staff, key stakeholders including affiliates, managed and non-managed sites, and software vendors for the planning, analysis, design, implementation, evaluation and support of network infrastructure.
• STRATEGY:
Acts as a liaison and expert resource for network infrastructure with the end-user community, clinicians and/or software/hardware vendor to identify problems and concerns regarding the overall performance and/or effectiveness of the technologies and workflows that impact users. Researches, analyzes and provides recommendations for corrective action to resolve problems with the internal functionality of the system and/or integration of information between systems. Collaborates with clients and technical resources and/or software/hardware vendor with recommendations for system enhancements, detailed information regarding technical or functionality problems and assists with implementation of recommended fixes.
• PATIENT SAFETY and QUALITY:
Monitors the environment, technology and infrastructure to support optimal patient care and prevention of adverse events.
• POLICY and PROCEDURE / REGULATORY:
Ensures network infrastructure and corresponding policies and procedures, related to Health IT, follow appropriate Practice Acts, Joint Commission requirements and other applicable regulations and standards.
