UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the organization's UNIX operating systems and all related systems or software. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with server hardware/software and applications software and ensures scalability and appropriate integration with other systems. Being a UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. detects, diagnoses, and reports UNIX related problems on both UNIX server and UNIX desktop systems. Responsible for backup or recovery procedures. Additionally, UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the IT Infrastructure Manager, responsible for the daily operation of computer servers and systems within the company networks. Responsible for maintaining, managing, and repairing a system’s servers and helps in the design and analysis of cloud-based models and new systems. Assists the infrastructure team with making decisions regarding hardware or software purchases. Keeps systems operating efficiently by performing any necessary upgrades, patches and repairs. Provides recommendations towards server and system technology.

     

    **This position can be located in Fairbanks, AK, or Anchorage, AK**

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Work closely with the IT Infrastructure Manager to plan and implement IT projects consistent with organizational objectives
    • Design, implement, configure, monitor and maintain systems infrastructure
    • Provide systems support with a variety of operating systems
    • Install and configure server equipment
    • Maintain user accounts, performs password and identity management
    • Monitor and troubleshoot system performance, including capacity, storage planning, and database performance
    • Perform system updates (including software updates and patches)
    • Create and implement a backup and recovery policy, perform regular backup operations and define processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
    • Create and maintain all server and system documentation
    • Respond after hours for troubleshooting server issues
    • Ensure that the server environment, to include but not limited to, all servers, VMWare, and cloud environment are functioning properly with minimal downtime to end users
    • Develop and monitor policies for the use of system resources
    • Monitor and administer cloud-based and on-premises systems infrastructure to ensure optimal performance
    • Test release of products to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility
    • Develop specifications, procedures and documentation for systems infrastructure
    • Research and recommend systems and hardware in accordance with organizational objectives
    • Coordinate with vendors for the installation and support of systems
    • Provide systems support for all software and hardware problems reported by users
    • Troubleshoot issues at multiple levels ranging from high-level server administration to desktop support
    • Create technical support documentation and systems diagrams
    • Assist with the corporation’s annual meeting IT needs
    • This position will service all departments and subsidiaries
    • On-call availability
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Two-year college degree in the field of computer and/or five years equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum three years’ experience with servers, systems, and cloud solutions
    • Expert knowledge of VMWare
    • Proven Microsoft Office365 administration skills including Exchange, SharePoint and others
    • Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Knowledge of computing infrastructures
    • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving ability

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Four-year degree in Computer Science or a related field
    • Related degree and/or industry certifications (MCSA, MCSE)
    • Two years experience in a IT Cloud Administrator or IT Systems Administrator role

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities. There is a 40-hour on-site work week with on-call availability. Some travel may be required.
