UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the organization's UNIX operating systems and all related systems or software. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with server hardware/software and applications software and ensures scalability and appropriate integration with other systems. Being a UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. detects, diagnoses, and reports UNIX related problems on both UNIX server and UNIX desktop systems. Responsible for backup or recovery procedures. Additionally, UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The UNIX Systems Administrator, Sr. contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Essential Functions

    Work is performed under limited general direction:

     

    50% - Provide technical hardware and software support for Microsoft Windows servers, workstations, Cisco or Palo Alto network gear, and other related devices in the closed room by performing operating system and application installs, configurations, applying patches and security updates, and managing and monitoring backup environment. 

     

    20% - Address service request and incident tickets submitted by the user population requesting new access or break/fix activities.

     

    20% - Apply System Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) to systems, maintain compliance and hardening updates, and support audit activities to help maintain accreditation and authorization to operate

     

    10% - Support projects and non-recurring work (Other Duties As Assigned)

     

    Requirements

    A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    • Secret Security Clearance
    • Microsoft Certifications a Plus
    • Backup and Recovery Experience
    • A current DoD 8570 Baseline Certification (Security CE, CAP, GSLC, CASP CE, CISA, CISM, or CISSP) is desired
    • Windows (Server, Workstation), and Active Directory skills
    • PowerShell Scripting
    • Application install packaging desired
    • Knowledge of hardening systems, running SCAP tools and implementing STIGs on systems
    • Knowledge of and experience with compliance to government regulations and standards (NIST Special Publications, NISPOM, Risk Management Framework, etc.)
    • Strong documentation skills and ability to document and diagram solutions using tools like MS Visio
    • Experience with Network Administration desired
    • Provide exceptional customer service by handling customer complaints with tact and diplomacy.
    • Industry experience – ideally in Department of Defense.

     

    May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.  Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 35 lbs. with occasional bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching above shoulder level required. May require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
