Role Summary

This role is responsible for the development of electrical vehicle systems and hardware architecture, specifically in the area of Passive Safety and Safety systems. This role is highly cross functional and will be a mixture of remote, hands on (in office), and may include occasional travel. The opening will be located in the Orange County / Los Angeles offices and reports directly to an Engineering Manager within the Hardware organization.

Responsibilities

• Taking projects from user stories and vehicle requirements and ensuring successful implementation down through the system to the component level as the ultimate electrical hardware advocate.
• Utilize first principles in electrical engineering and physics to solve problems with unique and innovative solutions.
• Analyzing and advising on technology options and conducting trade studies for new designs.
• A combination of designing systems from scratch and adapting carry-over/existing solutions.
• Working to ensure compatibility between devices in system through extensive collaboration, including documentation of requirements, and verification plans.
• Leveraging experience to define what needs to be done more than being told what needs to be done.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

• Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering (ideally in the area of electrical or systems engineering)
• Experience (or equivalent): 5 years industry work in electrical engineering and systems (ideally in passive safety systems and products)
• Excellent written and verbal communication for turning complex technical topics into understandable language.

Pay Disclosure

• Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $117,000 - $146,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
• Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
